Title: BW45 Golf GTi & GTD Specification changes
Post by: 2014GTi on 23 October 2013, 12:55
Hi all,

thought I would kick off a thread to follow the news about the BW45 specification changes taking place on the GTi & GTD.
So far looking on certain threads and YouTube videos I have noticed the following changes:-

Performance Pack gets Red GTi badges to front and rear
Folding mirrors now operate from remote fob
Sound Pack available for GTD
Red brake callipers for GTD

*possiblity of a standard fitmet of USB / iPod interface instead of MDI (anybody able to confirm)

Anybody know of anything other changes?

Cheers :)

I can only assume, but MY2014 Performance GTi cars at the Frankfurt motorshow had red GTi badges.

Thought that was going to be for Europe only, will probably do mine anyway :)

Its to make the GTD's sound better  so nothing to worry about for GTi owners.
I find that the information posted around the BW45 changes is very minimal. I don't think its the fault of local dealerships either, just little information about BW45 changes being filtered down to the UK.
It would seem pointless to have EU GTi Performance Pack cars with red GTi logo's and not do the same for all of them.

Where are you getting the info about red brake calipers for a GTD?

According to the bulletin Lee posted about BW45 changes  (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=260090.0) it states they are urging the dealers to make sure customers know its Grey calipers with no logo!

If you take a look at MY2014 Golf's at the Frankfurt Motorshow you can clearly see the GTD with Red Brake Callipers.
The Performance Pack GTi's with Red GTi badges
Video's on YouTube will show this and for the GTD with Red Brake Callipers see http://www.autoblog.com/2013/08/21/2015-volkswagen-gtd-first-drive-review/ (http://www.autoblog.com/2013/08/21/2015-volkswagen-gtd-first-drive-review/)

I guess it depends what MY your Golf is..... I can only assume that cars produced after BW45 are classed as MY2014 cars and not MY2013.

I havent seen anything to state that red GTi PP badging and red GTD calliper logo's are EU only... I will keep hunting to find out thought.

In Ireland, red callipers on the GTD can only be ordered with the sport and sound pack:

I'm sure its been discussed here before that Europe GTDs get red calipers but UK don't.
They aren't going to gives us red calipers any time soon considering the bulletin has just come out to inform customers its grey calipers they get.

I don't know if I'd even want red GTI badging on a Tornado Red GTI. Have to wait & see how it looks.

Couple of assumptions going on here mate based on nothing more than pictures? As p3asa has already said, Lee our resident dealer contact has already posted what the MY changes WILL be.

Inflationary price increase plus week 45 and 50 product changes02 October 2013
One per cent rise for all models and some options from 4 November
VW1195-13

From Monday 4 November 2013, all models and some options increase in price by one per cent

Golf Hatch (week 45)

All trims

Luggage compartment – conversion of handle to handle recess with variable luggage compartment floor
Label in tank cap changes from white to yellow background in all diesel models
Change to optional folding door mirror – this can now be operated with the remote (currently only works when the ignition is on)
Media-in with iPod adapter cables – introduction of ‘Lightning Adaptor’ for iPhone 5 alongside regular iPod connection, as standard
GTD – introduction of optional Sport and Sound pack – £255 including VAT. This sound generator enhances the aural sensation for the driver (and passengers). In ‘Sport’ mode (using the Driver Profile Selector) there is an additional acoustic emphasis to the sound of the engine inside the car, with no additional noise externally

That's what I was thinking. Bit too much red. Need to see one in the flesh to see what these new badges look like.

I've just gone crazy and asked the dealer to add PP to the order. They can't 100% guarantee it won't delay BW/Delivery, but what the heck, you only live once. It's my first VW and might as well go for it. The new GTi badge makes it just that little more extra exciting...but I'm girly - I like stuff like that! Will look great on Reflex Silver

Performance Pack gets Red GTi badges to front and rear
As a Golf GTI enthusiast for 30+ years I find this quite a sad time. The GTI badge on a golf was always silver. On a peugeot GTi or SEAT GTI it was in red, but the real GTI it was always silver.
Its like the peugeot GTi's of the 80s had red door panel trim strips and red carpets. The real GTI didnt have to do that.
Sorry to go off topic

The red calipers are part of the sight and sound package.  If the sights and sound package is going to be offered here then that will be the only way to get the red calipers.

I'm with snoopy here. The silver GTI badges look classy, but the red GTI badges look like Halfords parts bin specials IMHO of course

You guys have a good point, I think the RB styling ones are better as they have chrome edging still, scroll down for the rear of the car as it's got the red on there...

Having had a think about it (after my initial 'car has only been out a few months and all ready they're changing it grrr' reaction), I'm also with Snoopy.  It should be silver as that's what it's always been.  I'm happy that my PP can be only clocked by the GTI callipers.  I'm sure the badges will still look good in red but I'm happy with my silver ones

Very minor changes to the GTI Mark thank god. Now, if they had suddenly turned round and said something along the lines of increasing the bhp through the PP then i would have been seriously pissed off

With the Mk 6 I'd had it a couple of months then they changed all of the rear lights, I was livid as it totally changed the look of the back of the car - so yes, minor changes are most welcome!!

Changes will always happen, minor or major even more when its a new model on a new platform, its just one of those things, if you want to be the first with something then this is something you have to bear in mind. Only if they sack the research and development team, but if they did that we would not have the MK7

I'm also with you. I think it looks cheaper, on the photos at least. I observed that the red badges are surrounded by silver. So, fingers crossed it looks nice on pure white (I'm on BW46). Red badging isn't unknown to VW, though. In Europe, the 6-speed mk4 (the one with the 180HP motor version -there were 2 states of tune post-facelift) had its "I" in red.

170 TDI Scirocco has a red "I" too to distinguish it from the 140TDI, both badged "2.0 TDI". Used plenty of times now and in the past, mainly to distinguish different output versions of the same engine unit. This badging implies greater potency over the current GTI to those familiar with the system.

Maybe they should just go with a red "I" so that later they can bring out the 40th edition with a red "TI", on the assumption it will have more than 230PS.

IMO the red GTI badge looks like something you'd pick up at Halfords and stick it on a 1.1 Saxo.

My dealer hasn't even mentioned these changes even though I have a car on order.

Shall I shout in March when my GTD doesn't have " that" sound ?

If it was on the brochure as standard spec when you placed your order then yes (not sure if it does). Sound actuator has come to be expected on the highest output 2.0TDI (177/184PS).
