Hmm...1997 GTI. Remote alarm, central locking. Tailgate won't open. I can hear the actuator work with the locking, and the button "twitches" just as it always did, but the button doesn't do anything suddenly-just pushes in and out as though it was still locked.
I don't have a key for the lock so any ideas what might have happened? (And what I can do about it!)
Thanks.

For starters you need to drop the rear seats, lift the parcel shelf out and remove the plastic tailgate cover inside. You should be able to ascertain if something has broken or come lose then.

Took the trim off for a look. Basically, the part fixed to the back of the lock (a sort of rotating "cam") that should rotate doesn't!
Worked it with penetrating oil and it loosened slightly so that it now works but I'm going to need to replace it I think. Anyone got access to a parts list so I can find out exactly how much I'm going to need to replace?
Cheers

It looks like part 29-it's fixed directly to the back of the push button/lock.
