Title: Latest Niggle !
Post by: Mike S on 20 October 2013, 21:09
2,600 miles now on the clock and a new niggle seems to have set in ! Using the Keyless system I have opened the car on several occassions recently and then just sat in it checking my phone etc without starting the engine. After perhaps 30 to 45 seconds a noise (that sounds "electrical") buzzes through the car, I think via the speakers but I'm not sure. When it happens it is very noticeable and made a colleague of mind jump ! Any ideas or similar experiences out there ? I will book the car in at Corkills Wigan soon ! By the way if I start the engine immediately then the noise doesn't happen. Cheers

Mine makes all sorts of low level buzzing and chirping noises, almost like how a dial-up modem used to sound. I don't think it's anything abnormal but it is kind of strange. I noticed it most when sitting in it using my laptop connected to the OBD port scanning the channel maps with VCDS. Mind you that starts its own funny noises as it accesses the control modules....

Thanks Dougl_. But the noise mine has been making isn't continuous. It's one loud and quick buzz. I imagine similar to a taser (!) or two wires being touched and sparking. I can't describe it any better than that !

I get a kind of speaker boom noise sometimes when I open the car. It happens now and again and enough to make you jump out your skin cause you don't know when it's going to happen.

Oh yeah, it does that too. It's even noisier if you get someone else to open it and get in. Open the bonnet and stick your head inside and you'd swear there were a couple of budgerigars in there doing some sort of mating routine...   As well as the birdy noises it also does a sort of whirr-click-whirr routine. My Mk6 did it too, just wasn't quite so noisy about performing its ablutions.

My mk6 keeps adjusting the headlights, you can hear them winding up and down. You can see them doing it occasionally if the lights are on. Wheel the adjustment thing a little and they stop.

CraigW - that's exactly how it is ! I'm glad its not just me !! I'll let you know what the dealer says, once I get around to booking it in and they've had a look/listen

Mild panic set in this morning. Went to the petrol station to fill up as I was running on fumes and for five minutes I struggled to get the petrol latch to open. Kept pressing it in and it wasn't for opening. Eventually it clicked open but it has raised alarm bells and made me wary about the next time I go to fill up

Craig I had a problem with the petrol cap last time I filled up, is that what you mean? Just wasn't opening and the more I struggled the more I looked like a plum, and knew people would be watching as was rush hour!

Mark it was trying to open the flap to actually get access to the petrol cap if that makes sense. Kept pushing it in and the catch just wasn't for releasing. I can see it being a potential problem going forward.

My dad's fuel filler flap latch gave up the ghost after 4 weeks - the click-in and click out bit, not the locking mechanism itself. My locking mechanism stuck on the Scirocco once, but never did it again, so never got it fixed.

Yip it's the click in click out bit that got stuck on mine. I wonder if this is going to be a potential weakness across the golf range?

I noticed my petrol flap was a little sticky the last time I filled up too. Must be an issue with them so.
