Title: MK4 1.8T 150 Cold Start Issues
Post by: swgolfchap on 19 October 2013, 23:29
Hi,

Got a mk4 1.8t 150bhp 2003 plate. When i cold start it i get a buzzing sound / hissing sound for about a minute and the rev counter flicks up and down until after the minute then it all calms down and back to normal. Sorry if my description seems odd, cant explain it really! Any ideas chaps?

Cheers,

Secondary air pump would be my guess.

Hi,

Cheap part? Worth replacing or is it just a noise for now?

Cheers,

I removed mine, all it does is pump air into the cat upon start-up, I'm not running a cat so I don't need it.

If it is the SAI at fault then you can see if you can repair it:

Or remove it all together, there is a section in this link that shows you how:
