Title: Squeaky wipers
Post by: Booth11 on 19 October 2013, 12:56
Any idea how to stop the damn things squeaking, it's driving me nuts

New wiper blades fitted last month,  had been fine until now.

Are you using screenwash, maybe theres a traffic film build
Up on the glass? Ive had success cleaning the blades and
Screen with vinegar, bit smelly but it wont linger for long.

Try claying the glass, and then polishing it to make sure its perfectly clean. Must be some sort of build up on the glass if even your new wipers are doing it..

I've got the same problem with OEM blades on the Golf, although the Passat is fine. From what I've read elsewhere, OEM blades are generally Valleo. Bosch ones are the best, so it might be worth trying a pair of them.

Thanks all

Gonna try white vinegar first and failing that, I'll clay it.

I don't think it can be all down to a dirty screen. My car was cleaned within an inch of its life to be entered in the concourse at GTI International and the wipers were still noisy.

I've ordered some Bosch wipers which will hopefully arrive on Tuesday. I'll report back.

Thanks Dubber, that will be helpful

Funnily enough I'm just looking at Bosch blades on Eurocarparts website.  Where you getting yours from?  Any idea what the difference is between the aerotwin normal blades and the multiclip ones?

Tbh my windscreen is always pretty clean but I'm going to give a good wipe down with vinegar tommorow and if no joy with the cleaning, then I might get the Bosch blades.

These are the ones I've bought. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350869426229?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 Hopefully they will be the same fitment as the originals, without the need for any bulky adaptors.

Bosch wipers fitted, no more squeaks.

I also adjusted the drivers side arm and the wiper blade was just kissing the A pillar, which wasn't helping matters.

Cheers,  just ordered a set

The existing ones got a good test in today's downpour and they were worse than ever!

Are yours squeaking right across the screen, or just at the top and bottom of the sweep when they change direction?

Yes, they squeak when moving across the screen.  They're so noisy I can hear them over the stereo (and that's loud). They're not touching the A pillar though.

The Bosch ones should cure that then. You know how to put them into the service position to change them don't you?

Yes, I often do that when cleaning the windscreen.  Ignition on and off, then press stalk down once

Are they easy to fit?

Yes. Just press the square button/tab/whateveritscalled in and pull the old blade off. In the words of the Haynes book of lies, "fitting is the opposite of removal"

The last two sets of Bosch wipers I've put on my car have squeaked - mainly at either end of the sweep (i.e. near the bottom and her the side of the screen).  The left-most blade also leaves a mark on the screen in the area where it changes direction: if it's been raining, the water runs off the screen where the wipers sweep apart from in this area.

I'd like to adjust the blades but I'm not sure what the best way to do so is - I don't really want to break anything.

I'm thinking of trying some Valeo blades to see whether they are a bit better.

Thanks for advising Bosch. I got a set from Eurocarparts for £18.90 delivered, tested them today in torrential rain. I'm very impressed, no streaks or squeaks........ so far

Mine have been well and truly put through their paces this week, with 4 days of constant rain and all is good
