Mk3 Golf When headlights are turned on speedo/rev counter flickers clock resets this only happens when i turn my lights on i recently fitted HID's but didn't have the problem till a week later the speedo is fine with sidelights just headlights that seem to cause the problem speedo goes all crazy resets and then works as normal straight after.

HIDs drawing too much current?, my clock used to reset when
1. Battery was on its last legs
2. A fuse was blown that is part of the clocks circuit
-
i will check all fuses tonight drawing to much current sounds about right thank you for reply.
-
Sounds like your battery is on its last legs.

Im going to test it and chang it if need be this morning cheers

I have this problem, but not as bad.
when I turn lights on (hids) the displays go funny for 1-2seconds then go normal, ive tried all sorts, ive fitted relays to them so they don't use the internal wiring for current, only a switchable signal, and then also put 1 way diodes on the switchable side of the relay to hids, although now ive typed it, maybe I need diodes on supply as well, darn, maybe that's it, well I was thinking it could be the switch, but will have to try diodes on supply aswell,
lol now ive typed it not sure if ive not done that as well, haha will have to check...
anyway I know there are multiple causes for it, but I know my battery is good as its new, so not that, so have to continue the search.. :undecided:

Yeh my battery is nearly new and in good working order it was only a week or so after fitting hids so might disconnect them and see if the problem continues.

HIDs possibly drawing too much current for the light switch??
Relay them, that should get rid of this fault OR BETTER take that sh!t out!

Mine are relayed and have 1way diodes and it still does it!
Btw my lights are projectors and levelled perfect and they pass mot every year, but 6k are a touch too blue, wanna change to 5k when I get a job..

Don't know why they would be drawing too much current, most sets i've seen have been rated at 35 watts. Go for the 4800k lamps, should be just right for what your looking for.
And yes, the main thing is you have the projector lens with your Hella Quads, its the people that run HID's without the correct lens that end up blinding everyone.

yeah its weird why it does it, i got my mate the same setup from same seller and his vr didnt do it, lol
i dont think its current draw, i think its more interference, prob cos they are cheapish kits, gonna try a diff switch out of interest, see if it does it.
I agree the ones without reflector headlights are annoying, but i never say cos im running them as well, albeit in proper lights...
