So the pouring rain is with us, im trying to understand how the autowipers work on the gti, do you need to have the lights switched to auto also ???
-
No. Wipers on intermittent, lever on the stalk over to the right for maximum sensitivity.
-
Should be much the same as on your Mk6
Are you moving? Have you adjusted the sensitivity switch on the wiper stalk?
-
As has said above, wiper stalk up one notch from the parked position. The rocker on top adjusts the sensitivity (how much rain it needs to see before it wipes.). Right over to the left is minimum sensitivity and over the right, maximum sensitivity.
I tend to have this right over to the left or one click down from it, and seems to do the job admirably.

Thanks guys , got it sorted now, i was mixing it up with thinking the sensor would know when it was raining and automatically switch the wipers on :nerd: what a div....
-
Ah, but it does it the other way round. If it's raining hard enough, it can automatically switch the lights on

I'm not sure if the 7 is the same as the current Passat, but unlike my 6, if you leave the stalk in the first position all the time, the wipers will come on when it starts raining. In the 6, if the ignition has been turned off, you need to manually start the wipers when it rains to activate the sensor.

I think the auto wipers seem to be a bit better than the MK6, not as erratic.
The only problem is the wipers themselves! Useless! Am I the only one experiencing bad smearing, juddering and squelching?!
Took it in today as I felt the screen was contaminated with something ( I had already tried cleaning twice) they gave it a clean with something and this seemed to cure the juddering but the smearing remained. More cleaning and a new set of blades later it's still smearing terribly. Going back on monday

They always try to decontaminate as a fix. Funny how slipping on a set of Bosch Aerotwins always clears up crap wipers i've had on my last 4 VWs. Either they're contamination resistant or the OEM ones (have generally been Valeo in the past) are sh!te. Not sure if the new MK7 Aerotwins are available in the UK yet. Saw some on Ebay.de about a week ago.

Yes they are.

DougL; nice one for that link.
Such a basic thing to get so wrong by VW but tbf the service guys have been very helpful and at least I now know this isn't an isolated occurrence.
-
Yeah the wipers are cack. Time to order some Bosch replacements.
-
Same problem here. Going back to the dealers and getting them to fit the same blades is pointless. I had similar problems with my MK6.
I've ordered a set of those Bosch blades too.
-
Maybe this is a stupid question but how do we know the above wipers are suitable for the MK7 Golf. Am I missing something?

Because a member on another forum got an email from Bosch UK.

Ok, in the interest of info sharing for anyone else experiencing the same, an update on my wiper issue.
From day 1 the wipers juddered a smeared badly. An impromptu visit to the dealer cured the juddering but the smearing remained even though they replaced the wipers. Car was booked in last friday and they replaced the arm on the drivers side, added a 3rd set of wipers and now it is 99% perfect.
The main thing is they have reported this back to the factory and i havnt had to put my hand in my pocket!
