ive got a agu and got a chance 2 buy a chipped ecu from another agu can I just plug it in and get the same spec ov if I had the  same mods or do it need to be coded to the car ?

If its had the immob defeated then it will just be plug and play

For the time and effort drive to R-Tech and get yours mapped/chipped.

+1 on the above, proberbly be about as cheep. and then you have a map thats coded to your car and your mods rather than someone whos running a different set up

You can do it but it must have EXACTLY the same part number. There are other factors that might come into it too like actuator adjustment etc which you've got to know what you're doing with logs to monitor it...

I bought Chris's old ECU off him and plugged it into mine, reset the ECU via VAG COM and off I went :laugh:

I agree with what wazzer says to be honest, if its just a stage 1 map you shouldn`t have any problems.
just be sure that your engine is healthy.

I bought a stage one mapped ecu with a key and clocks. Changed the immobiliser chip in to my current key so I didn't have to change the locks, put the clocks in and obviously the ecu. Away I went, been mint, although I do have a feeling I need to sort the actuator out as I get to 15psi, it spikes to 20 and drops back to 15psi. on the list to sort out!

Wouldn't necessarily worry about matching the part no exactly but try and match the model year as near as possible. Putting an early ecu in a late agu car will make your mpg read 99.9- (can-bus/pre can-bus)

Immo2 ECU/clocks are easy to code it....just set it in vagcom and it re-learns...no messing about with clocks or key transponders.

If you put the other ECU in (not a exact match)  the MPG counter doesnt work
