Post by: richw911 on 17 October 2013, 18:13
I bought 2 Conti Sports 3's about two years ago and they have really bad cracking, I keep them at the correct pressures, and a quick google search revels im not alone they have lots of unhappy customers . Mine were made in the 19 week 2011 so not long for this to happen:

I contacted Continental and got no response so i have contacted BBC Watchdog if you have some and you have the same issues get in touch with watchdog aswell this really is not good enough.

That is really bad! I could almost understand if they'd be left in storage to dry out, but even so tyres have a shelf life of around 6 years iirc. Email Continental UK stating your consumer rights, and that you will be seeking legal representation as well as reporting them to the comsumer watchdog. I'm sure you'll get a reply in short order.

That's not good- I've run CS3s on both my previous A4s and now CS2 on the Anniversary and never seen this before- bad batch perhaps?

They are 2 years on the rim.
In that time have you ever run through chemicals on the road?
Are they the right rating for your vehicle?
Have they been under/over inflated?
Were they fitted by an approved Conti stockist?
Have you hit any hard bumps?
Do you drive aggresively?
All subjective and impossible to prove either way in this time frame.

Probs easier to just go buy a new pair

Mate totally agree its defective tyres, its just proving it.
If some sort of presidency has been set and they have admitted fault or that they are unfit then you have a chance. If they dont want to play can you prove you have not done it or that it is wear and tear or accidental

Who have you spoke to at Conti ?

I had a problem a few years back and they replaced 4 tyres FOC no quibble. That was a going out of round from a warm stop over-night.

Speak to a techie there, you get a different response.

Try this number and ask for a technical representative. I last spoke to a guy there about 4 years ago about replacing Run Flats with conventional tyres and he could not have been more helpful.

Be positive and they help you.

Good luck. And let us know how you get on.  My previous MK5 came with tyres that bad at the point of viewing so I got them to replace them...they had only been on the car 3years from it being new and only 30,000 miles and this was the rears.  Loads of tread left as yours have but badly perished.

It's a manufacturing issue, however if they are good then they will send you a cheque and letter saying that the payment is not an admission of guilt or fault, but good will. (You will have t send them the tyres back along with a cover letter first though) my mum had the same issue with a set of bridgestones on her civic.. 2 year old car, 7k miles and were showing canvas in the grooves..
