Post by: Mcwill on 17 October 2013, 13:02
Hi guys, getting an abf engine fitted to my mk2 golf along with the usual mods wheels, lowered, exhaust etc
Was just after a list of the best insurance company's who deal with cars like this?
Also how much should I be looking at paying?I'm 34 and have never had a claim.
Thanks

Try someone like Adrian Flux as for cost it is near impossbile to answer.  Probably best to get some quotes and then modify.

We have a specilaist scheme for cars with engine Transplants. If you cover less than 7500 miles a year it can lead to some very competitive prices.

We cover all mods like for like in the event of a claim and we can offer an agreed value cover free of charge.

Unlike other companies we dont charge an Admin Fee for adding modifications throughout the year. So if you decide to add further modifications mid policy these can be done by just PM'n an updated list accross to us.

Track day cover is also available on our policies from £45 per day.

If you cover less than 5000 miles a year the prices can come out somewhere between classic car policies and normal insurance so its very cheap.

If you wanted to get a quotation you could complete your details on our website www.greenlightinsurance.co.uk or call us on 01277 650866

Best Regards

Just my 2p. (Note that I am 19, 1 year NCB)

Adrian Flux and NIC both refused to provide a price for me on an engine converted mk2. Considering they are "specialists" I thought it odd they wouldn't even give me an outrageously expensive quote. So IMO save to 20mins call and try someone else. Sky often gets a good name, although I haven't tried them for a quote yet.

That is poor advice, no offence. Just because they couldn't help you, that doesn't mean they will not be able to help the next member..

The fact you are 19 will not help your cause; specialists or not

That's why I said to bare my age in mind. Even the non-specialist managed to give me a quote. I wasn't expecting an affordable quote. But why say you specialise in "modified cars" and and "young drivers" if you won't give a quote at all. Just giving my experiance that's all.
