So my wheel bearing (rear - inner) got seized and spun around on the stub axle making a lot of noise...
I replaced the bearings and inspected the axle (which was a bit discoloured underneath, but smooth) now 1000miles later the wheel bearing is noisy again.
I'm about to replace the stub axle + fit new bearings, but just wondered why it ate another bearing? The bearings don't run on the stub-axle, the race just sits on there!
Anyone got the engineering expertise to answer this?

No grease in the bearings?
Bearings done up too tight? (easily done)
Races fitted out of square in the discs?
-
lol - read my mind actually - Bearings were fit into the drums with proper size bearing seating tool - but I earlier today I re-greased and reset bearings as an interim measure - fingers crossed ;)
Also, all this "do the bearing up until you can move the washer with a screwdriver" lark is nonsense because if I can move the washer, there is tons of play in my wheel!

Ideally when fitting new bearings you want to do the nut up as hard as you can with your hand on the socket then nip it up 4-5 degrees whilst spinning the drum/disc.
-
What make bearings did you use?
-
the race hasn't sat flush on the stub and has given some movement, which has over cooked the bearing?
-
Spin the wheel while tightening as soon as it slows the wheel back off a tad and check play is no more than 2mm.
Over tight bearings fail quickly.
Never pack the caps with grease and use good high temp lithium castrol/duckhams
As said make sure they are not on the piss.
