Title: Dreaded door lock problem
Post by: Darren Streeton on 14 October 2013, 20:08
Renewed both rear and drivers door locks as I had intermittent faults. Tested last week and all working perfectly. However, today I renewed the front passenger lock and all seemed to be working correctly until I locked the car via the remote control. Strangely both doors on the near side would not open but both on the offside worked fine. Eventually managed to open the front passenger door and decided to put the old lock back on( rear still did not open). Front passenger door now works but still cannot open the rear which has a new lock and worked fine up until I worked on the front passenger door.

Hope that makes sense!

VW mechanic reckons that I will have to try and remove door panel etc while locked to try and open door. For info I can hear the door making all the necessary noise but just doesn't open. Any ideas???

does the button pop up ? there is a small cable attached to the handle that may not be in the correct position, resulting in the handle not fully pulling the lock open

The button's up by a few mil and won't pull up any further. I'm kinda thinking that the lock has locked itself electronically as none of the mechanical levers appear to work. It was working fine and was not touched. It only did this when I changed the front door lock. Wondering if some wire has a bad connection. Checked the wires in the rubber gator between the doe and pillar but all seems ok?

Is the lock new from vw or new to your car? Ie scrap yard?
