Title: Stone chip after 4 days...
Post by: TheMoggy on 13 October 2013, 19:03
...I'm gutted!!

The chip is right next to VW badge on the bonnet

It's tornado red...should I leave it or try and touch it up? .

I know they are inevitable but it's just annoying it's happened after 4 days.

If touch-up should I do it myself or will VW garage be best...advice please :)

Your dealer may have a "smart repair" person who could fix it.  Alternatively you could try your (hit and miss) local Chips Away type place.

You could get it fixed from a smart repairer but inevitably will get another one not long after so you would need to draw the line somewhere.
Personally I'd just touch it up.

My Golf looked as if it had been shot blasted at the front after 3years of ownership but then I wouldn't be that mindful of keeping a good distance between the car in front.

I made a conscious effort with this car to keep a good distance away from the car in front and have only had 2 in a year. The biggest problem now is cars cutting in in front of me because of the gap I've left, so its trying to balance the car in front with not having a big enough gap that invites all and sundry in

Where do I buy touch up paint...VW or online from a reputable company?

Does anyone know what the colour code is?

I'm sure the VW paint code is under the boot carpet on a label. As in the links below

Although I also thought it was on the door frame but obviously not.

http://www.carpaintwizard.co.uk/volkswagen_touch_up_paint.html

I would just get it from the dealer.

I have a tiny chip on the top of my wing, above the blade looking badge. Amazed how thin the top coat is on Tornado Red, on my wings at least. VW weight reductions?  There has to be 5Kg of paint less than was on my Scirocco at that thickness!

I didn't realise these things were bad. I was actually considering one for long journeys.

They sweat the paint plus if you get grit inside whilst putting it on then you'll have some lovely scratches.....
