Title: Looking for an exhaust to get thru mot
Post by: hardmonkeys on 12 October 2013, 13:43
My mk4 GTi needs a whole new exhaust system, it couldn't of come at a worst time if I'm honest lol, we are in the process of buying a new house, and need all funds for various fee, solicitor fees, estate agents etc etc...anyways, I need the 2nd car for my missus as we are moving further away from her work, now, I've been quoted £500 for a whole new s/s system, which I'm sure you'll agree isn't exactly gonna break the bank, but just beyond our reach until at least after Xmas/new year now, so...has anyone got a old system they have replaced with a system of their own and has it lying about...

It's a 1.8 20v NON TURBO
Can anyone help me out, I need the cat, centre box, and back box...I know I know...might aswell scrap it lol....
Mot is due 13/12/13
Thanks

That's what I thought, lol here's hoping, look at scrappers aswell, might get a full car for a few hundred, and make some back on some spares...so annoyed, both cars were fine, now as soon as we put our reservation fee down on the house, the black GTi decided to need a new exhaust and the bonnet catch has failed on the GT TDI lol grrrr

Ok, someone has recommended de-catting...I thought a cat had to be fitted for the emissions to go through...or is there a way around that....

Need the cat or a very friendly mot tester. Cat is the best bet.

Can you not get a generic sports ca welded in? Over on edition 38 someone is selling one for 49quid.

What is it that's wrong with your exhaust?

The cat has disintergrated internally, the centre box is blowing, aswell as the back box...

Ah. Not good man. Well you could get a second hand catback for 100ish and a generic sports cat welded onto it.

I have, works out around £200, then someone to fit, I'm a little under confident in being under a car on stands, in case it falls, last thing I want is my daughters last memory of me being crushed under a car...other things I'm happy to try out

Thanks for your help
