Right just got my gti, it has Bluetooth and the standard radio with dab,
Now I'm going to change the headunit for a rcd510 with dab, car also has front and rear parking sensors, is there any special version I need of the rcd 510 for the parking sensor and climate info to come up on the screen?
Secondly the car has Bluetooth but has a little screen thing next to the radio for the Bluetooth, which is a factory fit item I'm guessing it has this because the standard headunit doesn't have phone control, as said planning on changing to the rcd510 which will have phone options so can I get rid of the little screen thing? I have the Bluetooth module under the seat so of If i get rid of the screen thing will I retain bluetooth features?
Thanks

The climate control display and parking sensors will work on the new radio straight away. As for your bluetooth, that's a tricky one. Every car has it's own bespoke wiring loom, so the bluetooth module may well be wired into the radio differently to a fully intergrated one.
I would guess that the easiest way to get round this is to buy one of the aftermarket piggyback harnesses used to retro fit the kits. This would plug between the radio and your existing bt module under the seat. As the car has bluetooth already, it shouldn't need any additional coding. Search ebay for "VW bluetooth kit" and give the sellers a call and tell them what you want to do.

it is fully integrated with the car, it comes up on the MFD etc, just got the extra little screen which i guess because of the stereo, think i will just take to bits and see whats there, and replace the headunit and see what happens
Anyone know if the vw bluetooth is compatiable with iphone 5 wouldn't connect earlier but i guess the unit needs updating
Also whats the difference between the MDI connectors the red and the blue collar?

Later models with Bluetooth are compatible with iphone 5 but some earlier models may require an updated Bluetooth module. What year is it?

59 plate so i'm guessing not, also just been googling and its a vw touch phone kit so hopefully i can integrate with the new headunit

Update on this
I couldn't understand why the mfd had Bluetooth controls and this little screen as the two didn't tie up, looked under the seat and it had a Bluetooth module and looking online the touch phone kit had its own module, so today I thought sod it and ripped it out and see what happens, turns out the car has Bluetooth and voice recognition anyway and it all works a treat, silly little screen and bits removed, mfd now does phone control and calls etc and the voice recognition works perfectly, the two systems were conflicting with each other.
Question is why have both? I have a receipt saying the touch phone kit was fitted when the car was new by the dealership and it has factory Bluetooth why? This baffles me a lot
Also could someone tell me the part no. For an up to date Bluetooth module so I can get my iphone 5 working

Strange. Why would a dealer add the touch kit when it already had Bluetooth. Unless they were clueless - surely not  You could always ask them but does it really matter, the main thing is that it all works without it.
Interesting you say you've got voice control with your rcd510. My understanding is that on factory fit (not aftermarket) rcd510, you couldn't get voice command but that it could be activated with VCDS. Mine doesn't have it.

mine hasn't got a factory fit RCD510 i'm going to fit one
no idea why it has both all i can put it down to is clueless dealer
-
Apologies, forgot that you hadn't got it yet. Wonder if you'll lose the voice control by retro fitting rcd510. Is it something you'll use much as you could get it coded in.

unlikely to use it alot but would like to keep the feature if i can

My 2009 GT TDI has the VW Bluetooth touch kit (seperate screen) as well. I updated my stereo to a RCD 510 about 6 months ago but always assumed the two systems could not be integrated. I would love to have them working of the MFD any instructions on how this can be achieved?

Dont think this is possible, only reason i had it up on the MFD is because the car was also installed with factory bluetooth, so basically i had two versions of bluetooth, the touch phone kit is a seperate system altogether and doesnt tie up with the MFD only tie up between that kit and the car is that it uses the cars speakers and mutes the stereo when it should, i may be wrong but dont think you can link the touch kit to the MFD
