Title: some amplifier advice
Post by: navmk4gti on 10 October 2013, 13:26
Im looking at connecting my 6x9's and front and rear door speakers to an amp. Do i need a 6 channel amp so each speaker has its own channel to get the best out of them or would a 4 channel amp with 6x9 on its own channel and the speakers bridged do the job.

4 speakers - 4 channels. Unless at some stage you want to run a sub.

Got vibe slick 6x9'S and alpine door speakers. I thought so would need 6 channel ..der a b1tch to find a decent 6 channel one. I have a 4 channel v12 alpine amp was thinking do some bridgeing but the speakers may sound crap then

You have 4 outputs on the headunit so how have you connected 6 speakers to it? The sound will be very rear heavy. Either run the fronts and 6x9s, fronts and rears or fronts and a sub.

6x9 are currently bridged to the rear speakers. Im.not going to have a sub.

So if i run the 6x9 and front speakers to the amp
And leave the rear door speakers to the headunit it should run good?

Yep at the mo the sound is very heavy :lipsrsealed:

You can't simply 'bridge' speaker wire to run another set of speakers. When you go to a concert do you have your back to the stage?  This is why it is better to invest in a decent component set-up at the from and a sub in the boot.  You then cover the frequency range (tops, mids and lows).
Connect the fronts and the 6x9s, leave the rears. Daisy chaining the speakers will sound rubbish.

Yes i know hence why im going to amp them all up. Im not getting a sub as dont want that much crazy bass.

Ill wire the 6x9 and front speakers to a 4 channel amp and leave the rear speakers as they are.

It's a good start and will sound better than what you have.  Take your time wiring it up and don't botch anything otherwise you can cause shorts and further damage.

6x9's in rear shelf are rubbish mate! Ditch em and just amp the door speakers.

Yup i am now going do ditch the 6x9s now after little research

I av got small 8" subwoofer sony xplod 200w which i will be making a stealth box for.

I have a 4 channel amplifier and just had a quick question. Should the wiring be a set of speakers on chanel 1 and 2. And the subwoofer bridged on 3 and 4?? :undecided:

Also which channel have the hpf lpf stuff switched on for?

Assuming the amp is bridgeable then yes use channels 1 and 2 for the front speakers and bridge 3 and 4 for the sub.  Put the HPF/LPF to LPF or off.

Yup its bridgable. Do i not set lpf for the subwoofer channels. The speaker channels wi be on off. Never wired up subwoofer before  i heard channels for sub needs to be hpf or lpf one of them

What is hpf & lpf all about?

Yes as above set your HPF/LPF to 'LFP'. Don't forget to set your crossovers.

LPF stands for low pass filter, which i think is treble cut filter. HPF stands for high pass filter which is a bass cut filter.

So ill set the sub channels to lpf to cut out the treble to it.

Was going to say. Also how many amp pre outs does your head unit have? If it has more then 1 then you need to connect to the subwoofer pre out.

Ok so you mean interference through the subwoofer when you play music?

Does this noise match the engine revs?

or does it play mid and highs through the sub? - need to tweek the settings.

No mate im aware of that sort of inteference it wernt that. I managed to pin point it to the LPF hz settings. I have tweaked with them a bit and get bass only through the subwoofer now. Having high HZ set on lpf seems to throw all the sounds through the sub

Learn something new everyday
