Title: Mk2 Golf central locking
Post by: richie2480 on 09 October 2013, 13:18
Hi all, got a problem that has developed. My central locking is working intermittently. Some days it would work fine and then another (like today) it won't. I can open doors with key but not central locking. If I operate it and its not working I can't hear the pump working, and vise versa when it is working I can hear the pump. Is this a pump fault or electrical?

Cheers

Sounds like the pump.

A first guess is a faulty main drivers door actuator or a break in the wiring at the door joint.

Take the door card off and get to the actuator wiring.

Bridge the red to red/yellow - check if pump works.
Bridge the red to red/white - check if pump works.

If the pump works it's the actuator.

I did buy an actuator from Maplins a while back but when I went to install it the wiring is different. Is there somewhere I can purchase a VW one?
