Title: Idling at 3000rpm! HELP
Post by: petprops1 on 09 October 2013, 12:27
Please can someone point me in the right direction.
I have a 90 spec 16v GTI and after a recent drive, the revs started increasing up to about 2500 rpm on its own.
I checked all the vacuum pipes and cleaned out the idle control valve, but that seems to have made it worse!
Managed to get a brand new one and now the car sits at 3000rpm from start and wont drop.
I'm tearing my hair out....
Anyone got ideas of where to look or had similar problems?
Thanks

Try adjusting the Idle screw on your fuel injection system when its up to temperature.

Just to clarify. It is doing this also at start up from cold.

Thanks for the advice.

Sounds like a vacuum leak from somewhere.  Wave an unlit blowtorch around the inlet manifold - if the revs pick up then you've found your vacuum leak.
