With the car tweeked to the point that i'm more than happy with the available performance, the only thing i'm finding is the gearchange would benefit from being a bit quicker (it suddenly feels like a fairly long throw when your flicking through the box :shocked:)
So i have been looking at the short shifting kits available, there seem to be a few options, i know a good few people have already carried out the mod (now i know why :wink:) So does anyone have any recommendations which one to go for. I know the S3 one seems to be the most common as its really cheap, but is it worth going for any of the aftermarket ones? Can't see any reason why i should pay more for something that is probably exactly the same.
Sorry if its been asked before, but i only got a few bits and pieces on a search and they all seemed to suggest the S3 option and i just wondered if there was any other options.

The S3 one (which i have installed) is a great little mod, but dont expect a huge difference. Its about 20% shorter vertically and 5% horizontal. The good thing is that it feels OEM and is cheap. worth £30 IMO
If you are looking for ultra short shift i think the diesel geek one is suppose to be very good.

So does anyone know if the VWR Short shifting kit is worth the extra expense.
I see the S3 one is the same as the R, but the VWR kit is also an upgrade for the R? so should be different.
I like the Blurb that goes with with, but some first hand experience would be cool, if anyone has any.

The S3 shifter is exactly the same as the Ed30/Pirelli/35/R, i ran the VWR short shifter on my Scirocco but never felt the need on the 35 (all be it Rocco had a shorter throw)
VW in their infinite bean counter wisdom on Ed30s onwards changed a part of the shifter mechanism from metal to plastic which back in 2008 caused a few issues, the VWR kit comes with the original OEM metal parts to overcome this as pictured below

These were reasonable when I had mine in 2009 but for me a lot of money nowadays for what it is

How's your car driving now Spiderman?
Mine feels great the power the new engine is kicking out makes me wonder if my old engine was on its way out anyway! V happy customer :cool:
I see you have wasted no time modifying the engine, Im giving it another week and then adding the carbonio but thinking a wait till next year before I add Bluefin!
With regards to the shifter I'm thinking adding the same mentioned by Ross above, for £30 its meant to be a good upgrade

I waited till i got to a 1000 miles and then started to play :laugh:
Every change has been well worth it, she's quieter and smoother off turbo, and quicker and louder on Turbo, result.
I've stopped looking for a Porsche now :grin: The Dub is better looking anyway :smiley:
I think i'll going down the £30 route too, seems to make sense.

Went with Bluefin as i prefer doing the mods myself.
Dominic was great to talk too and very helpful, although i didn't get it direct, it was a better deal through JJC race and rally :wink:
It was dead easy to do and from the guys i spoke too, it sounded like the right map for me to use as i wanted to keep the car's OEM smoothness but give it more umph in the middle where it is useful.
The Bluefin map certainly does that :cool:

I have the VWR short shift and love it - I use it at it's shortest setting, and prefer it to the S3 shifter, which still feels pretty long to me.
