Like most people i'm awaiting my new baby, red gti with pp&dsg, but there is one thing I don't understand, Is why according to the official Vw brochure the 0-62 times on the pp & dsg version is the same as the manual pp, on my mk5 gti the dsg was 0.3 seconds faster, & also are these figures tested on 95 or higher octane petrol.

The gear ratios are different between the DSG and manual. The MK7 manual can do over 60mph in 2nd when the DSG can't, the MK5/MK6 manual needed 3rd gear to hit 60mph so the quicker changes in the DSG box reduced the 0-60 time.

The speedo is out, it is only geared to do 59mph in 2nd. My MK5 Golf reads 63-64 ish on the speedo when it is sitting on the limiter in 2nd but GPS confirms it is only 59mph, my understanding is the MK6 has exactly the same ratios. It has the same ratios as the R and here is a youtube video using GPS showing the difference between the DSG box and manual of a MK6 R he comments that it only does 58 in 2nd

In comparison the Mk7 Golf GTI I had showed 74mph in 2nd on the digital speedo, I do not know how accurate the speedo is on the MK7.

Thanks Dave, you are wealth of knowledge.

I'd say you'd need to be a fairly nifty stick shift user to consistently beat a DSG despite the factory figures...

I agree I think even with the extra gear change the DSG would always beat the average driver to 62.
