Title: private plate..what do i need?

I am buying a private plate from someone who i dont know what do i need to do to make sure its all legit he has it on retention and says i just need to pay the transfer fee ( £25) what will i need to do next?

the transfer fee is more than 25 i think  :shocked:

have a look at www.dvla-som.co.uk - firstly to check that the reg you want isnt on sale there cheaper, and also should be able to tell you the fee :smiley:

its norm about £80 to transfer a plate! 25quid.. i wish! lost me plate when i got the golf... think i made right choice!

its £25 to transfer the retention certificate into your name wag (or add you as a nominee) then once this is done the retention certificate would be forwarded to you and then you can stick it on what ever car you wish (pending on year related plate/car etc), to stick it onto a car unless the £80 transfer fee is already paid for (you will see this printed on the retention certificate if it is) its gonna sting you £80 to bung it on a car..... but worth it i reckon :smiley: :smiley:

if you need to know owt else wag pop round, ive got private plates on me cars, on retention and all over the place!!! :tongue: :tongue:

my boss had his plate '27 CP' on all of his cars lol. about 4 at one time.
I suppose all the fines still came to him if he got caught speeding lol

Ive just put a private plate on my mk2 but the retention fee(£80)was included in the price of the plate.I will check my paperwork later and see what it says about buying a plate from someone else as i bought mine direct from dvla
