Title: Number Plate Screw Change
Post by: Jimmgc51 on 07 October 2013, 22:32
So my screws are looking pretty rusted on the number plate of my Mk 6 and I'm wanting to change them out for new ones. I was thinking on buying plastic to never have this issue again.

Anyone had any experience of doing this?

I am more curious about what holds the screws in, is there a nut behind the bumper or is the screw hole threaded. I don't want to take the screws out and then not be able to get them back on. After a quick inspection I couldn't really get my hands up the back of the bumper and so if this is the case I may just leave it

They will be self tappers going straight into the plastic bumper cover, so just unscrew them...
Or, even better, get some new plates, and stick them on with proper sticky pads, for a much cleaner look.

Definately stick them on, few strips of strong double sided tape, look alot cleaner and no more worries! Never had any trouble with stuck on plates.. Just make sure the surface is degreased and clean, dry and ideally not cold for best adhesion.

Sticking them back on is a good idea!

Will I need to change the holders then or will the original just screw down behind and get some new plates made?

Just fit them on the existing holders mate, just get some new plates and some good tape.
