hey guys. do any of you know if there is a repair panel available for the inside of the fuel filler flap area on the mk2? not the panel the flap screws on to but the piece in behind the arch. cheers

no I was meaning the bit directly behind that. the outside section on my car just needs a couple of tiny plates grafted in but the bit behind has two big holes on either end. was hoping there was a panel that would fit straight on but not had any luck finding one. probably just make one up for it which is always more satisfying if a little more time consuming lol. thanks anyway thom.

So you mean the inner skin surrounding the hole for fuel filler neck?? If so as far I'm aware you will need to fabricate them as there is no off the shelf replacement panel available.
Also advisable to remove central locking pump (if fitted), drop out fuel tank (empty tank can be full of vapour which is even more dangerous) Dropping out suspension and removing rear seat, c-pillar carpet etc
What I'm saying is it's not a 5min job to do properly.
Have fire extinguisher handy and someone who knows how to use it. Oh, and be sure to protect your windows from sparks.
Don't ask me how I came by this invaluable advice :wink:

im guessing you've been there' done that :grin:. I have most of the interior out anyway as I was doing the rear turret last Saturday. only get a few hours on a sat morning so was hoping there would be a repair panel I could just fire in but doesn't seem to be. looks easy enough to make a section up though. just the derusting that's a pain. was hoping to get a good dose of waxoil in between the panels when im done but space is kinda limited. but noticed a blanking grommet on inner arch which might help :smiley:

Yes, I have a build thread outlining the mk2 that looked like it had spent at least part of its life at the bottom of the sea :grin:
Hope you it sorted. Inner panel is relativity straight forward to fab up, just access can be a bugger.
Outer repair panel is available for not too much.

no haven't finished it yet. its been taped up and painted until next spring. im now in hibernation from own car duties lol. unless its urgent.
