Title: Induction
Post by: GTIJas on 07 October 2013, 13:11
Hi guys on my mk4 1.8T, I have put a Pipercross panel filter in the original air box. Now don't get me wrong I know these don't add power but the extra throttle response has been good.
Now what can I do to take this further? I would like a little roar but don't want to get a universal as it'll suck in hot air. A friend said about drilling a few holes in the air box?
I thought about getting induction pipes?
I'm a bit of a junior in this department can someone help me by explaining any personal experiences?
Or any advice and links to some of these parts?
Thankyou

The gains from drilling the airbox are minimal.  I would invest in getting a remap personally.

Oh yeah, didn't see the re map on the bottom of the page. I don't think drilling the airbox would give you much roar to be honest. Give it a go though.

Go for a cold air induction kit. You can pick one up on ebay for around £50 but replace the cone filter for a decent one when you can afford to as the ebay ones go rusty. If you haven't already got one, you should be running an uprated diverter valve with the map as the standard one will fail after a while.

If you get both of these you will hear lots of nice sound effects

Can you send a link to an example of these CAI kits?
Thanks man

Nice. Love the silicone hoses. I have forge boost hoses. How much did they set you back? Are they called induction hoses?

And that heat shield.... Is that one you made yourself?

They are normally just known as boost hoses, mine are Venair ones which Topher sorted me out with

I didn't make the heatshield, I bought the filter and heat shield from Baxxxy so he might be able to tell you where to get one from

How about something like this?

http://s742.photobucket.com/user/VwjasGTi/media/image_zpsac1ff735.jpg.html?filters[user]=137746042&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=0

Left end would go onto MAF sensor and right would fit in nicely with standard CAI

I tryed copying the pipercross vis ? induction kit as it looks mint but cost £200 + ,made mine for around £50 using cia kit off ebay ,cut it down and replaced the cheap £5.99 filter with a better smaller one.  well happy with it.

Fuel reg should have its own vac you need to T it into the Dv valve i have it the same way as you till niki at R-tech said its the wrong way round

What's the thinking behind that then?

To be honest I'm going to leave it where it is, I've not had any problems with it so far. Plus Nick at Carbon looked over it when I first fitted the gauge and Topher also gave it a good going over when he fitted my TIP and boost pipes and didn't mention anything
