Title: wastegate gone - turbo (rattling)
Post by: mac456 on 06 October 2013, 17:47
Hi all,
I am just after abit of advice.
i have recently bought a golf gti and it seems that the wastegate has gone. (rattling)
The dealer i bought from is getting the turbo changed for me (probably a recon)
Any ideas why this goes? I am worried that it may happen again.
What is also worrying me is that the dealer's garage uses the correct oil? Anyway of checking for sure?

Also does a recon turbo need running in?
ps. The dealer is a independent trader

Also there is nothing noticeable wrong with turbo fiction just rattles

Not heard of too many failing, things like the Solenoid or a Spring can fail or weaken over time.

Perhaps you should push for a new turbo and not a recon?

From what you wrote I don't think Oil contamination is an issue.

Yeah I will push for a new one. If not hopefully the recon holds up!

For the actual wastegate to fail is fairly rare. The actuator can fail as poached mentioned.
