Title: Sat Nav
Post by: mike_f on 06 October 2013, 14:03
Got the standard Nav system on my GTD but not impressed that it can't find my address.

The house has been here for 10 years but when I try and find the street - nothing...

Anyone else found this?

Bit disappointed that a tom-tom that cost 1/10 of the price is doing a better job!

Great, thanks I'll give it a go.

Any idea how to turn off the points of interest?

Just now the map is very cluttered with all POIs showing.

Anyone know how much a new card is from the dealer?

Been trying to download for ages and no joy. When I finally got it all downloaded the zip file wouldnt work despite me having the correct extraction programme they reccomend..

SUrely the dealer would give me a copy on my own SD for nothing...

Unfortunately, dealers are normally clueless when it comes to Nav upgrades. When I picked up my GTD, I enquired about the free 3 years worth of upgrades. I might have well have been speaking Chinese judging by the look on their faces.

Still think you are better doing this yourself, and I think that's why VW made the updates available on line. Also, don't forget, if you are upgrading the standard Navigation unit (not the Pro), then you have to extract onto the original SD card provided with the car, as there is encryption on the card that's needed as part of the update procedure. If it's the Nav pro (like mine), then any standard SD card (of an appropriate size will do).

I'd give it another go downloading personally, as one of the packages might have got corrupted.

I've bought a pre built mk7 gti and I am having nav pro retro fitted... And wow the dealer is clueless they use VAG-TECH for the upgrade and I have to wait 3 weeks

Feeling quite good about only waiting just over a week for my car compared to some ....

CBRT - sounds like a big retrofit job and are you ready for your pride and joy to be ripped apart to install wiring, roof aerial etc?  Like you bought a car stock so no choice of exact spec and although I had a similar top end audi system in my previous car and I can't say that I really miss it that much - you can get a nice tomtom / garmin for a lot less money but I guess it depends how much if anything you are having to pay for the option on the car.  I doubt I would be able to wait three weeks just for satnav

Yeah I know but...... I really want the pro and if it's not a perfect install- I won't accept it :)

I'm allowed the car for the three weeks so not too bad ;)

Yes prebuilt has it's draw back but realised today mine has acc (chassis control) so pretty happy as they didn't know lol
