my mums golf 2.0 diesel is having a problem with the glow plug light flashing
it seems to come on and off every 5 minutes or so
any ideas what this could be.
do golfs use the glow plugs to regenerate, i read on the web about brake light switch. we have checked the lights and there all working ok

Need to get it scanned ideally
Is it a 140 or 170??
140's didnt have a DPF so it shouldnt be anything to do with that
Just because the brake lights work doesnt mean the switch is ok. Could be an intermittent fault

May sound insulting, but does your mum ensure that the glow plug light is not lit up when she turns the key to fire up the engine? I used to have a diesel and I would wait till all the lights went out plus a few seconds to make sure that the glow plugs were ready to fire up.
Failing that, fault code read and it should tell you. Good luck on your quest to fix it!

the glow plug light just randomly starts flashing no matter how far they have driven
its a 140 model so no dpf. i would have thought with the warmish weather were having the glow plugs wouldnt be needed
does anyone know if the engine management light is incorporated into the glow plug light. its a 04 mark 5 2.0 diesel
