Title: Mk2 golf exhaust
Post by: VWchapman17 on 05 October 2013, 13:24
Got a standard back box on my mk2, in which I'm looking to replace, I've seen plenty of twin pipe exhausts as they are the most common for the , mk2, but I'm looking for a single pipe exhaust for mine as I prefer the way they look,  I've had a look around for a while now and I've found nothing, then thought of the idea of a mk1 golf single pipe exhaust fitting mine? But I don't know if it does or doesn't, does it fit?
Or can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Magnex do an oval exhaust I thought.

Twin pipes suit the mk2 but as above Magnex do an oval.

a very weird thing happened today whilst driving... just listening to my music driving along, choosing a song on my ipod which is connected by aux cable, then suddenly.. my aux setting disappears.. just vanished? its no longer there, as before you pressed src so go through settings, like tuner, standby, aux etc.. but when I press it now.. it doesn't work?? pulled my stereo out.. theres nothing wrong or out of place.. so my guess its my stereo's just f*cked...  haha

will get some pics of the new car soon.

eBay, Club GTi classifieds, or.......start up a group buy, and they'll make some with a minimum order of 10.

I've asked them several times in the past, and always got the same response. They are developing so many new systems, that it's not worth there while getting the old tooling out for a one off batch of something that they haven't made for 10 years or so.

I asked how many orders would they need to even consider it, and got a very blunt "It won't happen" However, if you think different, put me down for one please.

Corrado exhausts fit with a bit of fettling. Single exit too.

Pricey imo, but would fit an 8v and a single round.

Or chop off your old tip and weld on a single round. Depends how handy you are and or how ghetto you want it.

If you can weld then you could go down a scrappy and have a huge selection of rear silencers that share the same diameter going in and are a similar size.

know people who can weld me one onto my original box now.. I guess that's a good idea.

Even better, use it as an excuse to learn how to weld.
It's a life skill and if you own an old VW will save you a fortune.
Plus it's a great feeling, flipping down your visor, then striking an arc to the opening bars of AC/DC's Highway to Hell.

Welding tunes are as important as weld rate, power, gas and feed settings.

You could always just get one custom built, £150 for a box of your choice from longlife in stainless steel fitted, and also you choose how loud you would like it to be . But try find out if your local longlife dealers reputation is any good because some are great some are pants

Would this fit? I know it says it's built for the mk1 but it's reduced haha saves me spending 150+

You will still need to weld it, the mk2 back box goes up and over the rear axel where it then joins to the next section. The picture seems to have no pipe at all coming out of the Back box.

So it would fit if I could just weld the back box pipe to it.. Seems simple enough if I'm honest as that's the type of exhaust I'm looking for

What would be the best way to have my exhaust, a straight through exhaust to standard back box, a straight through with aftermarket back box or just a new back box without straight through pipe.. I'm looking for something that's not too loud but has a nice note....

Having a full straight through exhaust will make it loud. I only have two boxes, straight pipe from head to what would be the second silencer. For engine note there is personal preference in some after market system such as jetex or scorpion ect so look at some youtube vids. I think induction makes a better sound than exhaust but I'm not sure what you are able to do with carbs. Try replacing back box then if you like the note try removing the centre silencer for a slight noise increase.
