Well, I might as well speculate on a car that has no future release date...it can't hurt can it?!
Anyone any idea when the Ed40 will be due out? And the likely spec?
Been googling it but not really found much info.
Picking my new GTI up next week, and already I'm planning the next one....
-
should be 5 years after the edition 35
-
If it happens, it will be in 2017.
I'm saving for mine now.
-
Edition 40 would stand for the GTI's 40 year anniversary so yes 2017! If they release one, which I'm sure they will.
-
I confidently predict it will be 265 bhp
Exactly half way between the GTI PP and Golf R.

It will be, they'll take the engine out of the New cupra

I have got it on order for you ; )
240ps guaranteed

Order it now and it might turn up on time !

fingers crossed this will have the forthcoming R engine in a detuned state to make it special
wifey is rather eager for one of these

Cheers Lee.
I'm not fussed about how much power it has. I just want one to polish and take to shows in 20 years time with hardly any miles on it.

What exactly is the point of these edition cars? The difference in price and bhp between the GTI and R isn't big enough to justify the need to have a car planted right in the middle.
-
They're special edition cars to celebrate the age of the GTI so why not really.

Still think it's worth doing the special editions and there is a market for them. Was tempted to wait for the ed40 but have decided to go for an R in 2015.

And yet they still sell plenty of them, go figure. :smug:

i'd only buy the special model, if i had a mk7 it would be a stop gap to a 40, whilst they cost more they tend to have better residuals and get rid of the pants stock wheels
in terms of sales, there were 2,300 mk5 Ed30s (and not the 1,500 original intended), 220 mk5 Pirellis and just under 700 Mk6 35s

Why don't you just get an R instead?

i intend to, any GTI purchase would be for the wife

I've penciled in buying an Edition 40 when they come out, whether I will remains a different matter.

Aren't they usually towards the end of the model cycle (sales boost); it'll probably be based around the GTI PP with a load of extras and a small power hike for not a lot more cash; so guessing around 250bhp/leather etc for around £28k in todays money.
Is there a place for it if the R comes in under £30k? Not sure.

The edition 30 GTI had a lovely looking factory body kit with different rear light clusters, an additional 30BHP (I think?) and edition 30 badging on the interior/exterior - the german model had matt black 18" monza II alloys

There isn't usually much difference but these limited editions are quite sought after now, if you keep an ED40 for 10 years it will be worth more than your run of the mill Mk7 GTI would.
