Hi all been a long time since i have been on a forum and is about time i shared the little knowledge i have of mk3 Golf Gti.
I have had 2 in the last 6 months and both proved fairly reliable(i say fairly due to previous owners not knowing what they are doing)i am looking to highly mod my GTI i am not on a budget at such and in no rush.
I am starting with styling paint shop shortly and new banded steels coming next week i will upload picture shortly.
I have sorted/fixed(Bodged) a lot of problems my self with this car.
I have a complete spare engine gearbox and many other parts as i broke my other gti when buying this 3 door version.
Mods on car so far
*De Cat
*Ported Head
*Ported Inlet manifold To match head
*Very ported Throttle Body
*Power Flow Cat Back
*Modded Air Box With Cold Air Feed
Both my GTI Have had a really lumpy idle but run fine would love to no cause solution for this problem.
-
De cat won't make a difference apart from noise as the standard Cat is not that restricted. Stick a lightened and balanced flywheel, best mod I have done to my 16v
-
Lumpy idle could be plugs/leads/dizzy/rotor or just a leaky vacuum hose or something else!
My car has never idled smooth.
-
i have new leads dizzy coil pack sparks and rotor arm and cleaned all the breather hoses previous owner was a bodger and has taken me long hours trying to sort it.I have a lightened flywheel to fit i was told there are 2 different set ups of flywheel and clutch the lightened flywheel i have is clutch inside flywheel.
-
I'm assuming this is an 8v as I was going too say that I've got a 16v lightened and balanced flywheel for sale.
-
Nope i have a 16v and i have a lightened flywheel stage 2 clutch just don't wanna spend a lot of time to relise flywheel is different is there 2 types the flywheel i have is clutch in flywheel.
-
Inside the flywheel??? Post pics mate!
What clutch have you bought? What does Stage 2 mean?
-
well not standard clutch and i got given with the car sort of just repeating what i ahve been told i have only owned jap crap and alfas lol.

Does it have a name on the clutch?
-
sachs sporting made in germany
-
If thats what I think it is then its a very expensive clutch! Over £400 when I was looking.
-
Oh dont suppose you know what weight your flywheel is now?
-
27105273 is one of the number stamped on the flywheel also Germany and S 28024 Around the outer edge on face of flywheel these are all stamped on.
-
Isn't that flywheel for an 8v as its certainly not for a 16v.
-
previous owner baught i i don't have any history and the flywheel weighs 3.470kg all i know is that the clutch sits against the engine and the flywheel goes over top covering the clutch.
-
Lightened 8v flywheel / clutch setup then.
-
Oh that sucks for me and my 16v lol suppose better sell it then was hoping it would fit heard lightened flywheel great upgrade for the golf and as i found out today my clutch is slipping :s.
-
Well in that case...

Why does it need a 'Stage 2' clutch?
-
if the car is a 16v with an 8v clutch set up does it not have an 8v gearbox and cable operated clutch as well.Confused !
