Title: GTI Internal Wheel Arch Lining
Post by: Dully on 03 October 2013, 09:56
Are your front internal wheel arch linings plastic or felt lined????????

I distinctly remember when looking around the dealers demo car that they were felt lined. I noticed last night that on my car they are just black plastic

The reason i remember is that the TT had felt linings front and rear and also my GT Sport, these are so much easier to jet wash and when dry look clean, the black plastic ive had on some other golfs always discoloured and i would have to give it a quick spray with tyre wall silicon while on a jack to bring back to life.

I looked under the demo car and said too the Mrs, thank god its got felt lined arches.

I am interested what anybody else has, especially those on here that might have purchased an early ex demo model.

The front wheel arches are plastic lined and have been on every Golf I've owned! (MK5, 6 and now 7). Only the rears are felt-lined.

Fronts are plastic as they are out of the passenger cabin area therefore the NVH characteristics are less important. However the rears arches do protrude into the cabin area therefore they are fabric lined to reduce road noise.

A small piece of my felt lining in the rear had ripped I noticed the other day. The felt lining is a bit flimsy and it looks fairly close to the tyres in mine
