Title: 5 Day old GTD damaged by stone chips
Post by: mcmaddy on 03 October 2013, 07:15
As title says my 5 day old White GTD was damaged outside my house on Sunday afternoon by flying debris from the road outside. Two dents on the off side (1 in door and 1 in wheel arch). PDR guy has looked at them and said one in door is too deep to salvage so now my car is being painted. Its at a VW approved body shop to keep the paint warranty intact but it's just sickening that my new car is now going to be painted. Guy at shop said when I get it back I won't even tell anythings been done so why do I fear the worst.

Thats sucks man.  Just thinking about how much rage I'm going to feel the first time I get a chip or a scratch.  Its just a matter of time isnt it?  Other than surrounding your car in bubble wrap - what can you realistically do?

That is awful. Did someone else have a similar issue on these forums?

It's a terrible feeling being a new car, but what do you do? Was this bad luck or was your previous car marked with similar damage?

It is true that our enthusiasm dulls over time and we don't notice these things as much, but it really hurts when it happens to our shiny new pride and joy.

I hope your car comes back shiny and new, but don't let it keep you awake. It's not worth it, and certainty not financially viable.

Most bodyshops nowadays are excellent and i'm sure you won't notice any difference at all. The same happened to me a few years back and I ended up with a nasty stone chip on my roof of all places after only a few weeks of ownership. I had it re-sprayed which cost me a fortune but you would never have known.

I'm sure your car will be 100% perfect

I'm sure your repair will be absolutely fine, just take your time to check over the work they have done.
However don't think because they are VW, BMW, Audi approved that they will be better than anyone else.

I went to an Audi, Landrover, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, BMW approved shop. They even had 2 Lamborghini's being dropped off on a trailer when I turned up for an estimate on my Golf so I felt reassured they would do a good job.

Needless to say the paint was as thin as anything, the door wasn't hung right, trim not put back, overspray everywhere!! Not great to say the least.

Feel for you.  Earlier this year I had to have passenger wing resprayed on my mk6 after someone put a dent in wheel arch.  Body shop did a fantastic job and you couldn't tell at all.

Just remember to check the after care advice.  The body shop applied a special breathable glaze onto my resprayed panels.  I was able to wash and use soft wax straight after but no polymer glazes for at least a month.

Didn't get the car back on Friday as guy from body shop phoned to at he wasn't happy with the end result. said he wouldn't give me the car because if it was his own car he wouldn't accept it. went to have a look and he showed me what the problem was, nothing major but just slightly off matching where the back door met the front door. paint manufacturer coming on Monday for a gander but all will be put right for Tuesday. paint job looked fantastic though which was pleasing. wait and see what happens on Monday now.
