Title: My dealer unable to sell new Mk7 with 4 year warranty?
Post by: iandjm on 02 October 2013, 16:13
Hi,

I am enquiring about ordering a new MK7 Golf GTI with a 4 year warranty, and have just been told that they are unable to supply the warranty as they are not FSA registered, and so cannot sell an insurance product!
Any one heard of this before?

Cheers

Ian

Does this stop them offering VW finance for your car? Adding an extra year or 2 to warranty before the car's first registration shoukd be as easy as adding any option. Maybe they can't offer an aftermarket alternative but they should be able to spec you an official VW sourced warranty extension.

Finance is not covered under the FSA - they are bothered about any insurances (inc warranties) the dealer might sell.

So the dealer will be able to provide finance as long as they have a Consumer Credit licence.

It is a bit weird they cant sell the factory warranty - who told you this?

Sounds like the salesman might be getting a bit confused, if it was him.

I would check this with their business manager - he will know.

By that reckoning they shouldn't be able to sell you GAP insurance either. Maybe they just want you to come back to them in 3 years time to buy another, not four!

Hi,

It turns out it was a confused dealer. Although it worry's me that they didn't think I meant the VW 4 year warranty in the price guide.  It looks like 4% is the available discount. Sound about right?

I asked the dealer who referred me to VWCS.  VWCS said that it can be purchased from the dealer at delivery (but not later).  Less straightforward has been obtaining a straight answer on any deviations in cover for year 4 compared to years 1-3 - been passed from one person to another and still struggling... :undecided:

The 4th and 5th Year Warranty VW factory seems to have missed the dealers in some cases ,and you mention
extra warranty ,they start thinking of the other warranty available to you end of free one .
The 4&5 the year one has to be taken out before Reg of the car ,the extended original type (not Vw Ins extra type)
can be taken out before the manufacturers expires .
It's a No brainer to take out 4 or 5 year option day one ,even if you keep the car 2 or three years , sell it and
make a big point of the cover ,even ask more ,private or dealer ,as it costs less to the next owner should a
problem crop up .

The configurator at volkswagen.co.uk show the 5-year warrantee at £490...

I feel such a f**kwit with all these no-brainers I didn't take up!

If you part ex the car (hell of a lot easier to px for £15500 at 3 years than try to sell for £16500 privately - not many people willing to drop that kind of money on a private sale), that extended warranty won't make you anything. If you keep cars 3 years only then there is no need to even enquire about an extended warranty as a "value enhancer".

Everyone Entitled to their opinion on the Excellent Factory option , the warranty is  big plus ,ask a dealer ,mine will pay
more P/EX for a warranty covered car ,I used to when I sold Cars , and it is a big plus selling second hand , If I were
buying a 3 year old VW and it had 2 years VW Warranty , It would be worth a couple of hundred or so more to me
for the peace of mind , Mind what do I know ,I only sold about 18,000 cars in my career

Its excellent if you're keeping it 4/5 years and want the peace of mind, but if you buy it for resale and it enhances the resale value by "a couple of hundred quid", have you gained anything at all by not spending it?

Perhaps not so much in money terms ,but to a degree ,but while you own it ,yes the peace of mind,
and if you don't know how long you may keep it ,or if your circumstances change .
Selling it with Warranty as I said is a big plus ,as is the right options ,right colour ,correct presentation,
and even if Joe Bloggs says how much off then , you just sell all the plus points and say nothing .
However, can see you are not convinced , I am .
Of course you could buy Insurance till the cows come home ,but rarely is it transferable ,and though
debateable, worth actual money , or the difference between a deal or no deal
