Title: Exhaust systems
Post by: GTI7me on 01 October 2013, 20:25
I've been thinking recently that the Mk7 GTI exhaust note doesn't seem as deep/loud as the Mk6. Which IMO is about the right amount of noise, maybe just a little louder

Are there any exhaust systems out there yet? Will installing one void my warranty? Maybe i could have the mid-box removed?

I'm also keen on getting an exhaust system, just a catback for now though, I see BullX and supersprint have videos and dynos out for their system but no pricing or availability mentioned in their site.

oooooohhh looky here:
http://www.supersprint.com/en/IT/prod-p-7200-12953-8-vw_golf_vii_gti_performance_20_tsi_230_hp_2013_E28093E280BA.aspx

actual dyno data for out of the box performance pack GTI
"Actual data:
Horsepower 249,2 Hp @ 6065 rpm
Torque 371,5 Nm @ 3295 rpm"

I like the sound of that!!

PS I would also love an exhaust on mine but I doubt the wife will allow it on 'our' car :(

Also out of interest, a question for people who know about these things.  if I wanted to introduce some pops and crackles on the overrun would a cat back have that effect or do I need to get rid of the cat?  or is it completely unrelated!?

Wouldnt really do much, more noise obviously but if you want some bangs then you need a tbe or de-cat. If you retained the original cat and had pops and bangs then youd knacker it in no time as its caused by excess fuel which wouldnt do it any good.

Remap would also help, when there available.

Regarding exhausts, I asked Milltek in Aug and they said they'd have one by end of Sept. theyve already got one running on their demo model but dont appear to have released it for public consumption yet

GrahamFR - As long as there isn't too much in the way of pops and bangs, you should be fine on the standard cat. I've been running a standard cat with a precat removal pipe (it has 2 cats as standard) on my Astra VXR for 30,000+ miles with lots of pops and bangs and the emissions are still exactly the same as the published emissions by Vauxhall. That said, in theory you are right as unburnt fuel will ignite on the cat, eventually knackering the cat.

Hmmm sounds a bit too deep for me, I'd rather have a higher pitchy kinda noise

me too mate, me too.  I keep asking myself, how has a car I bought mainly for my pleasure ended up becoming 'our' car...

Just go for a resonated one, it wouldn't be too much louder than the original and probably not as bad as the sound actuator

Aren't the mk6's like 1200? This might 've the clincher between going with Milltek or bcs who are usually cheaper

Prices are slightly higher than the 3" race system for the Mk6, I'm sure others are working on their offering

I'm sorry Miltek but that is way out my price range. Will have to look elsewhere.
