Afternoon Gents,
Since I have now started going slightly mad waiting for this damn car, I decided to make a checklist for when it does finally arrive as I have a feeling i might miss something. I basically used a checklist someone on this forum made for the MK6 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=163067.0) I've condensed it down slightly, made alterations that apply to the MK7 and personalised it for my order.
Feel free to use it if you want and change it for your situation. However, I still feel like I've missed something. anybody got anything else that they think can be added?
Any feedback much appreciated :D
List below:
A. Things to check before pickup:
1. Confirm price (check dynaudio has been added and service plan is £199 down from £249)
2. Check main insurance and GAP insurance
3. Make sure that you get to choose the number plate
4. Make sure the old car is part ex'd and V5C is signed
5. Take CD(s) and 30-pin to lightening converter when collecting
6. Ask for stickers to be removed from rear window
B. Items to be delivered:
1. 3 door car
2. Manual
3. Deep Black Pearl paint (NOT FLAT BLACK)
4. Performance pack (GTI logo on brake calipers)
5. Two keys (make sure they have GTI engraved plastic pieces and both open and start the car)
6. English manuals
7. V5C Document and 12 Month Tax (both will be posted out later but you should get a letter to say the tax is in the post)
8. iPod lead
9. Locking wheel nut and tools in the boot
10. Service plan (ask about service intervals)
11. Full Tank of Fuel
12. Dynaudio (Sub in the spare wheel and marking on tweeters located in the pillars)
13. Set of mats
C. Quality control:
1. Check delivery mileage and reset if dealership hasn't already (hold mileage reset button for 30 seconds)
2. Check the oil, water and other fluids and that they are not left at shipping levels
3. Look very carefully for any small dents or chips. Crouch low and look along the sides of the vehicle
4. Make sure dealer has filled in and stamped the PDI part of the service book
5. Check panel alignment
6. Test full, half beam, indicators, fog lights, hazard warning and interior lights
7. Test rear lights and make sure all 4 sections are working
8. Check tyres for damage, pressures and the spare in the boot
9. Check the transport blocks have been removed from the suspension springs
10. Check the bolt caps and centre badges have been fitted on the wheels

V5C and Tax arrive in the post after a few days. Not sure from your list if you meant that, or if it meant you expected to pick them up from the dealer. They should give you a letter indicating the tax disc is on its way though, should any coppers doubt your integrity.
Good list though!

I'll take that out, thanks

Maybe just the way your list reads, but you won't get a plastic security tag with each key, and the GTI tag/engraving is a screw on addition to the normal key, there aren't 2 key variants. If the GTI bits didn't come with the car for whatever reason then you could have them added later without putting off car collection.
No need to remind about 7 day insurance being taken out on your behalf - you must ring VW insurance to activate it before the dealer can get the car taxed, and you dealer will ring you to ask you to do this when the car arrives or at least by the day of expected pick up so that they can tax it. Choosing your plate is a dealer discretion thing - don't expect it if you haven't asked for it, some just don't (like mine).
You won't get a USB lead unless you made prior arrangements to pay for one or the dealer put one in at your request, same for full tank of fuel (you'll get about 4 gallons as standard).
I wouldn't worry too much about checking correct operation of all equipment, just the safety related ones (lights, oil, water, brake fluid), anything that doesn't work is covered by the warranty. Damage checks are far more important (unless you want the handover period to last a few hours).

the GTI plastic pieces is what i meant in my list. just my horrendous grasp of forming a sentence letting me down there. only added that point because someone posted on here that they hadn't got those with their keys. The choosing the plate and the full tank are personal points i have asked for. the operational checks i did think was slight overkill so will probably remove them. thanks for the feed back on that, very thorough :D

That's a great list Redpath. Many thanks.
I have been thinking of trying to make one today as I expect to collect this week (ooohh excited ). I have not been so organised as you, but using the search term "things to check" came across the following threads which might help add to your list:
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=256425.0
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=256035.0
http://www.a5oc.com/forums/a5-s5-topics/11437-what-check-when-picking.html
And don't forget to take your sunglasses
And your reading glasses if you are getting old like me with my once perfect 20:20 vision now fading for reading anything smaller than a Motorway road sign

A few more from memory :-
- Check all interior car mats are present and they they are the proper GTi ones.
- Check the VIN number (in the windscreen) matches the VIN number on all your documents. Its easy to get letters transposed (and harder to fix weeks later).
The VW salesman will probably give you a customer satisfaction survey before you leave with your pride and joy. He will be desperate for a high score  That is the time to ask for a few final touches - a full tank of fuel, some top up oil & windscreen washer etc.
-
Proper gti mats?? really?
-
Remember, if you don't like dealer stickers in your rear window ask them to leave them off! That's on my checklist
-
I asked the dealer not to put a dealersip sticker in the back window and give me Euro/GB plates - handy if you like to pop to the continent on occasion.
No proper GTI mats fitted to the MK7, so don't worry when you inevitably don't get them. Customer satisfaction has come for me about 2 weeks after car pick-up on my last 2 new VWs, VW UK independently phoned me. Haven't heard from them prior to my holiday this time around. They'll try a few times then email me for my survey responses.

ahh never thought about that, don't know why they put them in anyways considering the rear window is tinted and you can barley see it!

Great list, thanks very much!

The survey only came to me 2 weeks ago and ive had the car since end of July

I am going to be collecting my car in a couple of days. What media cables should i be looking for? I have selected no extras. Cheers.

As far as im aware the standard unit will just come with an ipod cable unless you ask for something else
-
Cheers redpath. Presumably to connect an iphone 5 i would need the lightning adapter and for further media control i would need the 'red' cable as covered in a separate thread?
Also what about charging my iphone. Does this accessory come as standard?

yes you will need the lightening adapter but a lightening cable from VW is available next week
the red cable only comes with pro nav as far as i am aware
not sure about charging but i would imagine that it will charge even with the lightening adapter.

Volkswagen have changed it to 8-10 weeks recently. This is meant to be fairer as any delivery issues which might affect scores can be ironed out in that time.

How many people have had their survey, I wonder. Do the questions relate only to dealer experience, or do you get the opportunity to let them know how sh!te you think VW UK and VW GmbH are?

The questions only relate to the vehicle
Section 1 - vehicle details
Section 2 - overall satisfaction with your vehicle
Section 3 - things gone wrong (with your vehicle)
Section 4 - what you like and don't like about your vehicle (scales of 1-10)
Section 5 - features and options fitted to your vehicle
Section 6 - likes about your vehicle (a small narrative section)
Section 7 - suggestions for improvement (again a small narrative section)
Section 8 - tyre puncture details if any
Section 9 - fuel consumption
There is absolutely no mention of your level of satisfaction or otherwise from ordering through to collecting apart from one question which asks you to rate your dealer. It doesn't ask you to expand on your answer if for example you have scored your dealer poorly.
That's not to say you couldn't attach a few A4 pages at the back voicing your opinion of your customer service experience if you felt the need to vent.

Hi All, I get my GTD (BW48) in early January  but as my dealer is over 200 miles away could someone please confirm what I should get with the car when it's delivered. I know the obvious like Manuals etc, but Media Cables, Key Fob covers etc, anyone know please ?
-
Definitely check for the GTD key fob bits - both my keys were delivered with the standard black plastic base and you should have one for each key. Queried this with the delivery driver and he got them sorted the same day. If they are not fitted, get the garage to do it there and then, as the Torx screw required is really small and it's quite a fiddly job apparently.
As for media cables, my car came with the 30 pin iPhone cable (blue collar) & an iPhone 5 lightning connector cable. FYI, my car is BW45, so would expect you would see something similar.
Also, if it is a private purchase, I would seriously consider into getting the dealer not to "prepare" the outside of the car for you. The swirls on my paint work are terrible, noticed it from day one, although as it's a company car, it is annoying, but ultimately something I'm not going to fork out £300 for a proper detailing for someone else to benefit.

My dealership experience....
Ordering and test drive 10/10
Discount and willingness to strike a deal 10/10
Adding rear view camera when available 10/10
Communication and weekly updates 10/10
Improving / requoting PCP deal 10/10
PDI procedure 10/10
AutoGlym LifeShine application 10/10
Can't fault my dealership even in the slightest

Robbo, Thanks for the info........much appreciated. It's a company car so can't do anything about the prep.

Resurrecting an old thread I know, but currently waiting on my GTi to arrive next month so starting to investigate things like what to check on collection
With regards to the performance pack, the GTi calipers are obvious, but what about the diff, can I visually check the diff has been installed? Belt and braces I know, as if the calipers are there then all should be
Cheers
