Post by: dasachmo on 19 August 2005, 23:41

Hi Mate

It should have the lead already on the plug Germans are good like that ;) bless em engineering geniuses!

If not the rev counter runs from the the coil
Hook the power wire up to an accessory feed. Earth/Ground wire to a metal part of the body. Illumination wire to the side/head light feed. The Engine speed wire low to the low tension small positive + lead on the coil should only be 12v use a meter 1st. And hey presto, one Tacho. ;)

well,  its a B reg 85 golf, mk2,
i have a A reg 84 scirocco rev couinter, but i aint 2 sure on these 2 cars compatibility, coz the rocco seats do fit, but dont slide freely in the golf, so i had to buy some other ones to get thru the MOT.
thinking of getting a GTI clock, coz thas the safest bet, just looking around, ma mate got one from a scrappie in cov for a tenner

Dont matter what year MK2 the rev counter wiring is already in place, as the dash needs the rev signal for the oil pressure buzzer.  All you have to worry about is getting the right type of clocks, older models with the hazard switch on the dash have 2 plugs to the dash clocks, whilst newer models with the hazard switch on the steering column have 1 plug.

I'm pretty sure MK2 Scirocco clocks are the same as MK2 Golf clocks, but I might be wrong on that one.

yeh, i think in the other post i asked, but then the rocco seats were meant to fit the golf, and they did, but the sliding mechanism didnt owrk properly, the peg that locks the seat into place wouldnt engage coz of the difference in the handle from the golf and rocco, so had to take them out coz it wont MOT if the seat dont move fully forward and back,

so just a lil wary before i start taking out bits and bobs outta the rocco

bit strange tbh, always been lead to believe it was a straight swap!

Rocco seats are a straight swap, got them in my car and they work fine, just takes a bit of fiddling as they sit so low, its hard to get everything in and lined up right. Once in they work fine and slide like normal.

Been trying for ages to get a set of clocks for my 1990 Driver (speedo & big analogue clock) that has a single plug connection. Bought a set of clocks off this forum, but they were not the same, as they hve a rev counter and a digital clock.

When I inspected these clocks, the pins in the plug connection were identical to the one's in my car (I photographed them last time I took them out). Plugged it in, and would you beleive it, it all works-guages, rev counter and digital clock. Most importantly, the milometer works too.

Nearly chucked them in my box of bits to sell-lucky I photographed the clocks last time they were out.

And i have changed loads of interiors-just take your time, and loads and load of photographs before, during and after removal. You would not beleive how important they will prove to be.
