I see this is the most suggested brake conversion, but what sort of power is this useful to? If doing a brake upgrade I only want to do it once, planning on running about 220 bhp after a conversion but would want to be brake safe up to 300 for potential power upgrades. 4 stud also.
-
Do a search on Porsche brakes or Seat Ibiza brakes upgrade etc.....
-
SEAT brakes will take you to 312mm.... not sure if they're 4-stud though?

Yes they are four stud if you specify 2000 Ibiza platform. You will need calipers and carriers to suit aswell.
-
Will 312mm fit within 15" alloys?
-
Fat chance.
-
 haha will 280 fit then? Looks like the best set up for my needs is a seat LCR master cylinder as it doesn't spoil on a 20vt, then some 280 disks after replacing hub and calipers, Braided brake lines also. Is that an alright set up?
-
300 bhp
umm id be going for 305mm anchors they'll fit behind some compomotive wheels just
-
The 2000-2001 Ibiza Cupra R is fitted with 4stud 305mm discs and Brembo 4pot calipers, of which you'll need 16" wheels minimum, unless you can get hold of some Compomotive MO's in 15", as I've heard they'll fit. They are pricey though.
The G60 280mm set-up would be fine for a 20v conversion as it's simply a set of discs and calipers, but if you wanted a bit more oomph then have a look for some Audi S2 calipers as they are a twin piston set-up as opposed to the single piston on the 16v/G60. The braided hoses are a must.
-
Dont spit at me but a five stud set up from scrapper Mk3 will run 288mm front brakes and give a few other benefits.
Thats if you can live with yourself
-
280mm setup, braided hoses, vr6 master cylinder, decent discs n pads is more than enough
-
Ok then, related question; is the vr6 master cylinder a good fit for a 20vt conversion. I have heard the mc and the cam belt cover are really close.
-
True. You can use the cupra master cylinder which will clear it
-
280's won't be much use on 300 bhp if you use the power
its not so much the power but the OH FK i need to stop when it going flat out on that private road and your brakes fade before it stops
really scary if they won't do 1 stop 280's will proably give you a few in close succsession but then you end up going hotter and hotter pads and disks just warp then
-
I just thinking in advance. I plan to run 250bhp after the conversion but no doubt over time I will want more. Will have to cross that bridge when I get to it. I'm assuming the cupra master cylinder and lines are good for more power but I will have to consider bigger wheels and bigger brakes later on.
-
Big plans that rarely come to fruition .. Not saying you won't do it, but for ease and cost just go for G60s or S2s for the moment.
220ish is plenty in a mk2 really, might be better off getting something designed for the power if you want to start chasing numbers, like an S4 or similar.
-
I agree with Danny P anything above 200BHP the G60's S4's will glaze, but depends upon how you drive TBF.
Hence if you are going to do it once, do it right  anything about 300mm discs will require an ET35 above clearance.
-
Just to resurrect an old thread. Will a 2003 seat lcr mc fit? Also I have some g60 280 front calipers along with mk4 rears just for the better handbrake setup. I know I need the 6 line braided hose set up but the ends won't fit, does anyone know what lines I should be ordering?
-
C& R Enterprises sell the correct kit including the braided hoses for mk4 rears
-
Thought I would jump in on this one as I'm also doing a g60 280mm upgrade, I have got the callipers and carriers but need to order the discs and brakes lines. Keeping the same size discs on the back but going to get drilled and grooved ones. So when ordering the braded brake lines do I get g60 fronts and 8v back or are they all the same? Also are all the rear discs same size? I'm confused :undecided:
-
They are the same kit for gti & g60
-
Thanks for that gambit, what about the rear discs are all the gti ones the same.
Thanks rick
-
Is it worth putting drilled disks on the back? The brake bias is massively on the front brakes and I thought drilled/ vented disks were mainly for cooling to stop the brakes overheating. The amount of braking you would have to do to cook and warp the rear disks would have caused the fronts to go long before surely?
-
But they will look good
-
Rear discs are all same size on gti/g60

Don't do it. Just run OEM discs on the back. The holes just act as stress risers which will cause cracks in comparison to undrilled.
Waste of time/money/effort

I'd say 280's will be fine up to 300bhp easily, 20mm won't make much difference at all, just buy very good discs and pads and you'll be fine.
I ran 280's with S2 twin pots, EBC discs and green stuff pads, G60 with 220+bhp that got stick daily, brakes never once faded, glazed or got pedal travel. Mine would hit 140mph easy, a 1.8T will probably see you over 150 but I wouldn't want to be doing that very often at all in a mk2
