Nice...........can't really help you much as its not a conversion I know much about but I would imagine you would have to covert it to run on k-jet or you're into loom swapping or at least modifying and a complete change and layout of induction and fuel management. Off the top of my head, however, I can't think of any reason why it shouldn't run with your current K-jet system, so you wouldn't need the ECU :undecided:

Give TSR a bell, they are pretty much the daddies when it comes to these conversions, they can supply a conversion loom etc.  (have been out in their 2l MK1 16v, damn fast)

could always get it running on carbs or TBs

Hi, i'm doing a pretty similar conversion on my mk1, although its a 1.9 not a 2.0 and im using a scirocco 16v inlet manifold to keep the fuel system on the right side and give clearance for the turbo's plumbing (i'm thinking well ahead)

heres the shopping list as far as i can tell ( i hope theres not too much more as i'll be starting once i get this lot) from what i understand the main problem is the exhaust manifold, you can buy these for about £300, but I'm going to bodge my mk1's downpie to the mk2 downpipe using a mk2 manifold as i plan to turbo it later on.

the list:-

Fuel System
Airbox with metering head/fuel distributor Fuel Injectors with fuel lines

Engine Electrics
Ecu & loom & sensors (knock sensor etc..) Distributor & ignition leads & coil

Engine Ancillaries
Starter Motor/solenoid & fittings
Alternator & fittings

Brakes (entire front system)
Servo & master cylinder
hubs/bearing/carriers/callipers/pads

Others
Gearbox
Exhaust manifold & downpipe
Water pipes/hoses
oil breathers/vacuum lines etc..
mk1 diesel engine mounts

Yeah that sound very nice what your doing mate but why are you going to use mk1 diesel engine mounts? Were would you get them from?

The diesel mounts are made of tougher rubber to cope with the extra movement you get from a diesel engine, or in this case a more powerful engine

I'm also going to try and fit a flexi-joint off a mk2, (the name describes it quite well) this goes between the downpipe and the middle box and again deals with the movement of the engine, i dunno about you but i'm always having trouble with that joint as it is, i imagine it'll be magor problems with 40+bhp extra.

You should be able to get the mounts from any good parts store for about £10 each (i use volkspares) as for the flexijoint, hopefully it'll be on the mk2 downpipe i'm going to butcher (can anyone confirm this???)  if not i'll probably just get one from the scappies

These will help.

I'm sticking with injection for 2 reasons

1. reliability - when working right you really cant beat k-jet

2. I'm going to fit a turbo in the future, so i'll need somekind of management (probabaly megasquirt)

Thanks for that mate will get them engine mounts. I have everything except the wiring, ecu and rear brakes (disc's) but the flexi-joint your talking about i don't believe i have herd of this what is it exactly? lol  would really need it??

I cand find a picture of the golf one but i found this on e-bay which can show you what i mean (i dont know if it would be the right size so its just for illustration)

its the bit on the left had side of the photo and allows the exhaust a bit of movement so it doesn't break all the time - the joint breaks but the springs pull it back together again

As the rear brakes on a mk1 only account for 10% of the cars breaking (its all on the fronts) theres not a lot of point fitting discs, you'd also need to fit a brake adjuster and turn the power right down or you'll be spinning out everytime you slam on the anchors, they do look nicer though.

Thanks m8 your a great help  i may leave the drums on the back now less work. But this joint what did you mean by it breaking?? how dose that happen? Dose the spring part go towards the manifold? Or other way around would you say that i would really need this part?? sorry about all the questions m8!

OK i probably worded that badly, it doesn't actually break!!!

basically it goes between the downpipe and the exhaust, in cases of extreem movement (like dumping the clutch @4000rpm) which would usually snap the exhaust pipe the springs on the flexi-joint allow some movement preventing a broken exhaust

I think i may look for that part now thanks  Just 1 last question would I need to change the brake servo to a mk2 one because i am putting on the mk2 calipers and disc's on the front?? Or can i still use the one thats on there?

The servo & master cylinder from a 16v mk2 golf or corrado are an absolute must

The main reason Mk1 brakes are such rubbish is cos the power is lost through the extra linkage put onto the car when vw converted left hand drive cars to right hand drive.   Mk2's were always going to be right hand drive from the start so their servo is more powerful, 16v's being the most powerful of the mk2's they also have the most powerful brakes (except for G60's & rallys of course)
