Hey all
Finally got the call that my week 36 had arrived at the dealer. As they were chasing end of month registrations they wondered if I could pick it up on Monday.
Having sold cars I've seen new cars arriving with all sorts of dents and bruises so I popped in to give it the once over.
Sadly one wheel has been kerbed! I went in and said to the sales manager who said "oh no I'm sure it can't be it's just off the transporter". I took him out and he was shocked saying it must have been the transporter driver etc....
So they've just put a new demo on the road so they're going to take a wheel and tyre off of it. I've warned them the demo must be very low miles and the wheel needs to be mint... We will wait and see!!!
So first impressions a bit scarred sadly :( hope handover goes much better!

good old arnold shark quick to blame other ppl hope you get it sorted an get a new wheel not 1 from a demo car

Sorry thought with your user name being Nairn you might have come from that neck of the woods, one of the dealers close to there is Hawco.

Demo wheel?! Get anew one - brand new car, brand new wheel!!
-
To be honest we just want the car now. If I insisted on a new wheel they would end up taking it off the demo anyway...

tell them to order you a wheel an when it arrives take the car back let them put the tyre from the damaged wheel onto the new 1

That is what happened when I went down to London. There was a chip on the wheel and I just told him to order me a brand new wheel as I would not accept a demonstrator wheel. So it is ordered and will take 3 weeks. So tell them to order a new wheel mate.

Hard luck mate. At the end of the day make sure that you end up with an identical tyre - you don't want to be left with a mix of tyre makes from day 1...

I would insist on a new wheel as well. If you are parting with that much cash for the car the least they can do is be professional about it and order a new wheel. I was build week 36 as well and my car is still in transit, only built last week so you are lucky to get yours now anyway. Oh how I envy you. Don't accept the fobbing off he is giving you with the demo wheel, insist on a new one.
-
The only reason they should have for trying to get out of ordering a new wheel is that they missed it at PDI, the PDI is now signed off and a new wheel is at their cost. Tough for them, but they shoukd let you loose with what you have and get a replacement wheel ordered for fitment later.
-
I agree with Monkey Hanger. However they go about it, it should not be at your cost to replace the wheel and like wise they should replace it with a new one. If it were my car in the situation, I would haggle and insist on a new one to replace the scuffed wheel. Once you drive off the forecourt the implications will change as to who is responsible for paying for the new wheel. Get them to agree to replace it with a new one before you drive off the forecourt.

Thanks everyone. Meant to be collecting tomorrow and I've said if it isn't immaculate I won't be taking it.
They've promised a new wheel and tyre and insisted it will be the same brand etc.
If they let me down there will be a fall out and I really don't want that; but at 26k for a golf I expect it to be perfect.

Hope it all goes as planned for you. Best of luck and enjoy the car
