The R looks the mutts in white with the gloss black wing mirrors.

I am going to look at picture comparisons between the white GTD and this. The main differences seems to be the front bumper, the thicker line under the lights, the gloss black wing mirrors and the wheels.

But it's the front bumper making the biggest change?

I would say it would not be too hard changing bumpers between the GTD/I and the R when parts become available? (If you wanted the look on an 'R')

Would you say the GTD/I bumpers look more aggressive though?

Not sure about wheels on white, they look a little like the A3 Sline ones of which the Nogaro turned my head far more and one of reasons went the GTD wy, but love the wheels on the blue and the blue itself is colour I would have by choice out of all that VW offer.

Having said all that, and I understand the mention of is it aggressive enough, but as a fan of understated with hints of what is on offer, I love the R completely with the peformance and all the little additions an R offers.

However do think the GTD and GTI do not lie behind it at all in looks stakes.

Now one of those beauties would make me buy a golf again

I prefer the wheels on the white one though as the alloys on the other one are too blingy for my taste.

Looks stunning. I'm surprised people haven't been tempted to hold off on the GTI and wait for one of these instead. Did I hear right that they are starting at around £30,000? Pretty much the same as a GTI with a few optional extras and with the massive waiting lists on builds...

Liking the blue and and it has to be those wheels for the R!

Shaping up to be my favourite model of the MK7 range.

I wonder why the water bottle is in a different place to the GTI? Something to do with the 4WD system maybe?

Great pics

I want one now!  Have to wait 2 years   by then I'll have been in golf gti's for 10 years so time for an upgrade.

Never been sold on blue cars before but the R in blue is   Even my 'no interest in cars' other half had to admit it was stunning.

Looking good

I've held off from the Mk7 GTI GTD to see the R and decide if that's the car for me for a couple of years.

Wonder when we'll be able to see one over here?

I love the 19s on the white version and those are the two colours to fight for. Was the white the standard or Onyx?

I am almost certainly going to order an R ,my GTI due soon is a short term purchase ,mind originally R order books
were due to open in November ,but heard a rumour VW UK hadn't committed to the R specs etc ,Recaros awaiting
type approval and the GTI/GTD backlog might make them hold off on the R till feb with deliveries Mid Year , Quite
a bit of Interest and spec moaning already over on the golf R forum . Allow 6 months + for high spec .
Some German Info http://www.volkswagen-r.de/#!home   have a play

I was watching some YouTube clips of the new R.
It appears to have front indicator LED.
Does the GTI have these?

I can't tell on my phone very well but are those rear light clusters different to the gti's?

Same design just a darker tint, same sort of thing as the mk6.

Do they have the same lighting pattern as GTI/GTD? I do wonder whether the lighting up of certain LED units within the light cluster are customisable within the letter of the law for general lighting and braking.

Thanks jimble, also do you reckon the diffuser will be a straight swap as I don't like the standard one on the Gti if I am honest, this one looks loads nicer

The R has a different rear bumper so it may not be a straight swap, also the the stock GTI zorst will look lost in the cut outs, i tried a mk6 cabrio R one on my 35 and fixing points were slightly different and zorst look pants in the cut out

yeah - I think you' really need to upgrade to the quad exhaust if you wanted the R diffuser.  otherwise it would just look odd seeing the empty bits where the exhausts should be.  Unique though.  I'll give you that

I was a little disappointed with the level of noise from my test drive so the exhaust will definitely be on my upgrade list, not sure On bcs or milltek but definitely liking the quad exhaust
