Title: Blown hose :-(
Post by: shiloh on 27 September 2013, 14:02
Hi everyone. I need some help. I have a split in this hose . Does anyone know what its called the Y shaped one at the front, what it does and where I can get another one? The car is a 150AUM gti with revo. Also would it be easy for me to fix bearing in mind I am a complete novice where it comes to fixing cars  :embarrassed:. If not is expensive to get a garage to do. Still on a student budget at the moment

Its called the crankcase breather hose. You have 3 options

1. Replace with OEM from dealer/TPS
2. Upgrade to silicon part that wont perish or split
3. Replace the entire breather hose system with a catch can and pipes that wont split perish

Here is a link to option 2

You will need jubilee clips when replacing as the ones you have there will have to be levered off and will be too hard to get back on.

Awesome thanks guys  will I need to make any mods to anything to fit that silicone one or is it a straight fit? Will it be ok to run my car in the meantime while I wait for parts?

No mods, direct replacement. You may have to trim the ends to make it fit properly but I doubt it.

It is OK to drive but it wont be smooth and will be down on power and economy

Common issue with the mkiv aum due to age and the oil vapour passing through over a period of time the rubber breaks down and as you have noticed results in a hole or split

as said really creation, dealer or tps or the best way as previously suggested bin the lot and fit a catch can system :afro:
