Title: BW40 Club
Post by: linc-dub on 26 September 2013, 09:34
Who else is in the BW40 Club?

Lets compare notes to see whose car is built when and more importantly what date do we all take delivery of our motors on?

BW40 here too. With my car being priority tagged I'm expecting it to sail through manafacture and be in transit this time next week (yeah right!).

I'm BW 40 too.

I'll keep you chaps posted on the situation blow-by-blow.

However, from tracking other BW threads nothing seems to happen in your "actual" bw! Either that or the tracker is woefully behind schedule.

From what I've heard it may be better to call your dealer during the build next week to get an accurate picture.

All fun and games

Yeh - unfortunately me thinks it will be a case of who waits the longest past the build week to having the car acutally built and of course that is then before the time taken to ship to the UK (Grimsby for me) and then time to dealer before they can PDI it and I can get me mits on it!

ME!!!

I'm build week 40.  Been nervously waiting for this moment to arrive.  Hopefully we will all have our motors by the end of Oct/early Nov

Still build week confirmed for me, maybe was a little keen checking the tracker at 6.50am though

I think we'll be lucky to see an update before next Sun!

Aye wishful thinking on my part.

It's a sad day just away to say goodbye to my MK6 GTD and welcome a bluemotion estate loan car until the mk7 turns up.

BW39s changed to build in progress yesterday so I expect yours will change next Sunday

Can I believe the Tracker???

My car has gone from BW confirmed to In Transit this morning - never even touched the In Build tab!

Good news potentially - anyone else in BW40 had an update?
Title: Re: BW40 Club
Post by: dippy_x on 02 October 2013, 08:14
That's good news linc-dub.  I would believe the tracker change but follow up with a call to your dealer who will be able to confirm.  What was your spec?  If its pretty vanilla then it might explain the quick build.  Just checked my status but no change for me.
Title: Re: BW40 Club
Post by: johanr77 on 02 October 2013, 08:33
Aye still on the build week confirmed point for me.

Mine is a red 5dr with the winter pack and reversing camera, not sure if they schedule them so they have similar cars going on the line at the same time.
Title: Re: BW40 Club
Post by: linc-dub on 02 October 2013, 08:50
Reversing camera and ACC were the only additions to the original spec.

My dealer phoned yesterday to confirm the BW40, but he was only doing what I've done and checking the tracker at that point.
Title: Re: BW40 Club
Post by: johanr77 on 02 October 2013, 08:59
Not wanting to boost anyones hopes but my mk6 seemed to skip the tracker stuff completely and arrived 3 months earlier than VW predicted at ordering. Could be they are starting to catch up on production.

Just checked my tracker. No movement yet here! Still confirmed for production w/c 29/09

Great news for you Linc-dub. Exciting!

No movement on my car this morning. Just checked tracker and it's still says "Your order has been confirmed for production week commencing 29/09/2013". So, still at stage 3.

Will keep checking, and checking, and checking

Mine is still BW confirmed too, but great news to hear a BW40 has gone in to transit! Further evidence that the 'Build in Progress' phase on the tracker is just an automatic tickover 7 days into build week and build could well have already commenced (hopefully).

Because I wanted GTI logos on the calipers   Being totally serious, it was the one option I seriously considered but decided against on cost grounds originally.  As I'll save quite a few £££ driving  a free courtesy car for a couple of months that more or less pays for the discounted price on PP, so I thought why the hell not!

Good for you buddy. I seriously considered adding the P-Pack. But it was another grand on top of all the other costs. I think VW have been quite cute about the pricing and dangling the carrot of the ultimate GTI status with PP... That is until the R arrives and the ED40

Well it is now into the 20th week of waiting for my car, so lets hope the In Transit stage gets a move on as well - next I'll be to the exciting stage of ship tracking for my car arriving in Grimsby and then its not that far to my dealer!

OMG!

Just checked the tracker - mine has skipped the build stage and gone straight to in transit!

This news is awesome - as suspected it seems to have been built alongside similar cars with confirmed BW39's (eg Petedoherty whose went into transit testerday)

What does first check point of eight mean?

Thx

Mine too. Dealer was able to see something their end that lead them to say "hmmm so they are building it the week they said they would". Here's hoping for a tracker update come Sunday. Doesn't time go incredibly slowly in these situations!...

Hi, having spent most of my working life in car plants, the check points are probably tracking points associated with the build process... typically these are Launch into Body in White (welding the shell), Into Paint, Out of Paint, Onto Assembly, Off Assembly (or off tracks), Customer Acceptance (Final Inspection), Pass to Sales . I know there are only 7 points on here, but these are the main process steps in any car assembly point. Therefore, if yours has just gone past step one, the body is being welded and on its way to paint..! The biggest challenge for any car plant is keeping the build sequence through the paint shop. (I have run paint plants at Land Rover and Aston Martin  :smug:) so once you are through paint, you should be on a home run .... Hope this helps

There is a really good video somewhere of a GTI in build and much as you describe and I know there is delays etc but have to admit it all looks pretty impressive.

Used to repair forklifts and one contract was at the Rolls Royce plant in London and they used to wheel the car from one area to another so a person could hand stitch this or hand scribe that or insert a certain part. Those cars were genuinely crafted by some very skilled people and used to spend quite a bit of time there just watching and I used to feel a little inadequate skill wise repairing a forklift.
Title: Re: BW40 Club

Would I be right in thinking I'll have to wait another full week to see further progress on the tracker?

The next status change to 'In Transit' should be a real one (i.e when your car is tagged as left the factory) rather than auto tick over like the build in progress stage.  So hopefully we won't have to wait as long as a week for the next update

Mine ticked over into the "build in progress" part of the tracker yesterday as I thought it would.

Dealer e-mailed this morning saying was still on target for handover on 2nd of November but I think she might be a bit optimistic unless her info is the car is finished and away to the docks.

Sh!te... Completely forgot to check the tracker this morning.

It says my car is in Transit! Wasn't expecting that. I'm not prepared as I need to sell my Scirocco privately

So I'm at Stage 5 - In Transit: Your car has been built and has now left the factory. On average it takes 4 weeks from build for this model to reach your local Volksw'agen Retailer.

What's next?
Title: Re: BW40 Club

What's next?

Should change to In Transit/3 weeks when it arrives at Port of Emden. I think in reality this should be less than a week.

I moved to In Transit + 3 weeks this morning (things seem to be moving quick now).

Does this mean its at port of Emden waiting to board a boat or it's actually on a boat?

If it is on a boat how the hell do you track your actual car?
Title: Re: BW40 Club
Post by: johanr77 on 11 October 2013, 12:30
I just got an e-mail from the dealer saying the car was built earlier this week and is now at Emden awaiting a boat. So the tracker must be on some kind of automatic update as it only ticked over to in transit this morning.

Its quite irritating as cars built later are now in the UK

@Neil That's really bad news pal. Sorry to hear. The build slots honestly seem like a lottery. Especially as your car was supposed to be priority tagged (if I remember correctly).

The only crumb of comfort I can offer is that things seem to be speeding up at the factory (I.e. The initial bottleneck seems to be easing somewhat). So, if your car gets built next week you shouldn't have to wait too much longer.

Same here. A confirmed BW clearly in some cases has no bearing on when it will actually be built. Spoke to some numpty from VW UK yesterday (and I don't necessarily trust for one second what he said..but) who told me not to expect to see any movement out of "build in progress" until 20th October as they give themselves 2 weeks from the end of the quoted build week to get it done!

Thanks Neil_MK. I think you're right that it's a bit of a mystery to everyone outside of Wolfsburg as to what is going on with the build lottery. Think I might try and resist looking at the tracker every day and reduce my dose to every other hoping for the suprise element you had with yours!

It's a good morning  Mine has gone 'in transit' finally! Just goes to show the variation in timelines for the same BW. Some of us just leaving the factory whilst others are at the dealer!

...And mine is still saying 'In Transit' + 3 weeks. So, yeah, there is a lot of variation for BW 40's (and other BW clubs).

Tracker changed to in Transit + 10 days this morning.

Does anyone know if that means its on a boat now? If so, how on earth would I know/guess which boat it's on? Help needed! Thx

Don't know about tracking but the 10 days status means it is now on a boat.  Should land in the UK within 2-3 days and then be at your dealers shortly after.  It's all quite fast from this point forward

Just checked the tracker. It says my car has arrived on the UK (Step 6 of 7);

Your car has now arrived in the UK and will be delivered to your local Volkswagen Retailer shortly. This normally takes 7 days

So I totally missed the ship tracking (not that I had a clue how to and it seemed like pure guess work).

I have to admit the whole process has taken so long its all a bit of an anticlimax. I wish I could be more excited (I know I sound like a spoilt kid but that's how I feel right now + super stressed with work, having a new baby and not selling my current car). Sorry for sounding down when I should be ecstatic.

I guess next step is to pay for the darn thing a pick up!

Mine has also changed to arrived in the UK and my dealer called saying he expects it at the dealership in just under 48 hours, going to sign the paperwork later this week and hopefully pick up middle of next week

I can confirm that the tracker says my car is delivered to the dealer today.

So step 7 of 7:
Your vehicle has been delivered to your local Volkswagen Retailer and is available for collection. Please contact the Retailer to arrange your handover. Thank you again for your order and happy motoring!

So that's it, the end of a very, very long journey.

Going down to collect Friday 1st November. One way train journey down to dealer in Kent, then the long drive home in my shiny new GTI :smug:

Yes, same here. Had an email from dealer yesterday saying he expects it to move any day now.

Looks like Neckar Highway and Weser Highway are due to leave Emden for Grimsby today, and Schelde Highway due back into Emden from Grimsby later. Surely we'll be on one of those (assuming your car is coming in to Grimsby!).

Thanks, that's good to know we're in the same boat  or not as the case may be! Dealer has confirmed it's heading for Grimsby too so fingers crossed that one of the ships you've mentioned has room for a couple more!

Still no movement on the tracker, then I didn't expect there to be as no ships have sailed the last couple of days - no doubt waiting for this storm to pass through.  Hopefully on Schelde Highway or Autorunner when they do start sailing again!

Same here. Still at the 3-weeks to dealer mark. Maybe not such a bad thing that they're not on a boat in this storm! Surely there'll be some movement in the next couple of days..

Well supposed to get mine last Friday but got a call that morning saying the tax disc hasn't turned up the car will be along some time in the next week (which kind of got me suspicious). So today comes and I hear nothing so I call the dealer and say I've got meetings and that this week so it would help if I knew what day the car was getting trailered down. Get told ahh we don't know we're at the mercy of the DVLA here, we applied for the tax disc on the 21st but it hasn't arrived. Having bought quite a few discs over the years I know they rarely take over a week to come so I decide to call them myself and see if the disc has even been processed, turns out it had only been applied for today and won't get posted until tomorrow.

So going to wait until tomorrow morning see if they try to blame it on the DVLA again then let them know that I know they're talking a load of old pish and someone their end dropped the ball. It's not a huge inconvenience as I've still got their loan car I just don't like being lied to.
Title: Re: BW40 Club
Post by: monkeyhanger on 28 October 2013, 17:51
Are you sure DVLA haven't been tellung porkies? Still waiting on my £83 refund on the Scirocco tax disc, 7 weeks after I sent it. My dad waited 14 weeks for his. He'd been told that they'd sent it on 3 occasions and they must have gotten lost in the post. I was fed the same line - they supposedly posted one 4 weeks ago, but will send another out. So many cheques going missing? I think the DVLA like holding onto money for as long as they can.

Someone is bullsh!tting you, but it might be the DVLA.
Title: Re: BW40 Club
Post by: johanr77 on 28 October 2013, 20:36
I do usually take what they are saying with a pinch of salt but I can't see why they would lie about when the disc was applied for. It's still not appearing on the website so that would make me think that the disc hasn't been applied for or it was only applied for today like they told me.

Hello all i`m a Newbie to the site....

My GTI was also due for build on Week 40 , after the pain of getting hold of someone to find out where my car was "should have been at the dealer for Monday the 28th", i`ve now been told by VW UK its delayed by one month due to production volume issues & Parts shortage for my vehicle.

Now looking at Early December

Hi Ginagee, My specs pretty standard just the addition of the performance pack, in fact i had to remove the Rear park camera due to supply issues in the early days of the ordering process, not really a necessity more a gadget  :nerd:

I'm sure you'll love the car. The GTI is my first auto/DSG so I'm still getting used to it, but the overall package is fantastic.

JCB Medway were really good when I collected on Monday, just don't forget any documents they may have asked you to present (they needed to 'scan' my Photo Drivers Licence for example).

Have a good drive tomorrow, and enjoy!

Yeah I had a confirmed week 40 Build, then it was delayed due to volume of orders & then parts shortage so its been sat in the plant in partial build for at least a month, a colleague of mine ordered his two weeks after me and got his two weeks ago, just caught unlucky i suppose, at least it gave me a little longer with my Scirocco
