Title: Electrical Burning

After a bit of help here, got a 1997 mk3 cabby. She's always been a bit temperamental, but her new thing is not starting. Checked all the usual, nothing wrong there, but then noticed a bit of smoke in the engine bay (that awful electrical burning smell with it!) it was from under the throttle and air intake.

I'm a big novice, and my trusty friend Haynes has let me down!

which engine code have you got? you'll find that in the service book, cambelt cover or service sticker in boot
