Title: Discover pro nav/radio system
Post by: tambourine on 23 September 2013, 18:27
All,

Do any of you guys believe that the discover pro nav is worth £1000 pounds more that the standard nav set up?Any thoughts... :undecided:

No, but I added it anyway as I love my toys

That question will be different for everyone.  I think a big Nav screen with good resolution and graphics really makes the car look modern and smart.  A small screen or no screen to me looks second rate.  Is it value for money?  No.  It's a huge sum for what it is.  Is it worth it?  Up to you.

A lot of guys will swear to you it's pointless and the basic one is fine or why you even need one at all.  For them they don't want it so they keep the money.  If you want it then their arguments are meaningless. It's personal preference.

If I could have justified the extra grand then I would have added it just to have it - but then you can say that about all options!  Also depends on how often you need sat Nav - once in a blue moon for me so didn't spec the bigger screen and got the normal Nav.  Bigger screen does look the nuts though!

Yeah, as with most options there is no right or wrong answer.  For me,  this is the only option I have a regret that I did not spec but found it was too difficult to justify the cost especially as I didn't give a rats about the sat nav - I just had a hankering for the bigger screen and resolution bump.

It was the first luxury option on my list. It is very very expensive considering I've hardly used the sat nav and probably will continue to hardly use it. However, I so wanted the bigger screen as it just integrates so well into the car and looks fantastic

I will be next week. Heading up to Loch Ness where the roads are amazing. Will take the camera to get loads of pics (hell I might even take some of the Loch )

I wish there was countryside like that near Cambridgeshire.  Roads are so crowded around here and to get anywhere I have to brave the A14 with its grid lock and average speed cameras.  I like to get on the back roads and have a blast between the villages.  Can be a bit unnerving though as the roads are fairly narrow with high hedges and you can suddenly find a tractor in the middle of the road. You get to test the brakes a fair bit though!

Those back roads sound like where I live in Cornwall.  I am surrounded by A & B Roads as well as many country lanes hardly wider than a car.  awesome stuff to test the car on a weekend drive to the beach and along coastal roads.  I cannot wait for my car....   When VW decide to finish building it that is

There is no way the Discover pro is worth £1700. I have ordered the normal sat nave for £700 and that is a total rip off. (I use sat nav every time I use the car due to the nature of my job)

Exactly what do you get for an extra £1000, a slightly bigger screen and some features that you will never use.

Think of the computer you could buy for £1700, a top of the range TomTom is only £200.

Its almost a crazy as spending £1000 on an extra inch diameter on your wheels or some sparkle in your white paint.

I second that Brenbo, I had Carrs vw white demo for the whole day in the summer, had a great drive down to lands end and Sennon Cove. Some great roads down here to test the GTI. I've just to wait another 2 months before I can test my own.

Not too familiar with Cornwall but if its anything like Devon then your roads are much narrower than mine!  Also Cambridgeshire doesn't involve any drops for hundreds of feet into the valley if you misjudge a corner... or if the road has decided to subside.

Heh heh, not trying to win any friends eh Ricepop? (j/k )

True that all options are a luxury which you could easily live without but we all have desires for different things and at the end of the day you can't atke it with you when your brown bread
