I was told you could get some sort of conversion to get the MK4 speedo unit into the MK3, since the MK4 unit looks much better than the dated MK3 unit.
Brother has just switched his 100bhp TDI MK4 for a '97 MK3 VR6 & was interested in making his dials look a bit less boring.

Golf 3.5 Clocks?
-
Can be done seen it loads of times.
If you can read wiring diragrams then shouldnt be problem.
-
as said get a set of mk4 or as know 3.5 golf cabriolet clocks built after 1999 they are plug and play however if its a gti clocks you want to replace then you need the advantgarde as fitted with the same 2litre engine so has the mfa.
-
they dont fit the dash right and look sh!te coz of this
the wiring side of things it can be done

they dont fit the dash right and look sh!te coz of this
That solves that then - it'll not be getting done  cheers

Yeah look bab mate
The 3.5 ones however are just mk3 clocks that illuminate blue so waste of
Time really as u can just swap your green lightning to blue or whatever other color u want on your own clocks

Is it easy enough to get the speedo unit out of the MK3?
At the moment, if he's driving at night then he wont be able to see how fast he's going as the bulb must either be out or on its last legs as it's simply not bright enough, even with the slider fully up.

Easiest job on the planet to get mk3 speedo out... take out light switch and bit of trim next the dash to the left as well. light switch needs unlocking - use flat item and slide the lock bar open (insert between lower edge of switch box and trim), other cover trim just unclips.
then undo 2 screws that hold in frame. if you have adjustable steering column push it down fully. then take frame out, 2 more screws hold speedo cluster. undo, pull forward, unplug and its out.
