Title: Leaking sunroof
Post by: JJH on 20 September 2013, 18:24
Headlining cloth closest to the windscreen on passenger side is damp, heavy rain results in small water droplets coming from the roofs plastic centre assembly, sunglasses holder surround. With the dealer, not impressed.

Initially thought it might be a badly sealed screen, vw technician reckons most probably an issue with the tubes that take the waste water from the sunroof seals.

Have a new CC DSG to play with in the meantime.

Wow, what with that, MH's handbrake failure and someone else's exhaust nearly falling off, it's not the sort of quality control one would expect form a German manufacturers latest model ?

Hope you get it sorted satisfactorily.

I can't believe their have been so many reported problems in such a short time! The fact that they are all completely separate issues is even more worrying!

I think I may just give up on the GTD and buy that second hand A3 I was looking at last week

One or 2 issues with a 10,000 part car isn't unexpected if you buy new - the second hand buyers already have those early issues ironed out by the time they get theirs. My last Golf, a MK5 GT Sport TDI 170 had about £5k of warranty work (admittedly about £3k was un-necessary when they replaced the cylinder head in an attempt to cure DPF issues later resolved with a technical remap).

After two weeks I have the GTD back from the dealership and all's good.

The roof leak is no more.

MK7 sunroofs are bonded to the roof, unlike the MK6 apparently; a specialist firm visited my dealer to remove and re-assembly the roof assembly.

In the interim was loaned a CC DSG, surprisingly nice, for sure. Second week was a Tiguan R-Line, not my thing to be frank, cheap leather, nice electric adjustment though, ability to take a load of crap down the skip impressed unlike its thirst.

Today I clay barred the car for a couple of hours, polished, GTechniqed (wheels too).

Plenty of fall out gathered by the bar, especially from the front wheel arches and boot spoiler.

Polished the glass, GTechinqed the seats and only now (after what seems like an age) I feel like the cars sorted.

Brought a TomTom air vent holder this morning which I'm happy with. Off to Cologne in the morning, interested to see if I can get from the Shell station in Folkestone to Ludenscheid and back in one tank like the MK6 can. Will post findings, to share.

BTW, standard GTD wheels look wicked once polished.

Wait... this is VW we are talking about. Exactly which bit of advertising took you in? "If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen?"

Actually I've heard of a leaky sunroof before. Best avoided as an option then...
