Title: mk 3 golf automatic 1.8gl

Need some advice my mk 3 auto starts but is over reving when trying to get into 1st and 2nd gear then goes ok in 3rd. Ive had so many diff people tell me so many diff things was wondering if any1 had any advice

Check oil level in the box and also check the gearbox loom plug. Had non stop trouble with one and found the loom plug clip had a tiny crack in it.

How much oil needs to be in gearbox and where wld I find the loom plug sorry to be a pain

Plug on the top of gearbox going straight down and in.

Oil level as far as I know you need to leave it in park, start it and undo the sump plug on the box. Then you gotta try with a tube or a pump to squeeze some in til it just starts to drip out.

Looking down on gearbox which 1 would be the sump plug. Sorry if I sound stupid. Woman looking for advice

Sump plug/nut is underneath.

The loom is a connector on the top of the gearbox, top left:

It is the engine model. It will tell you in the owner's manual if you have it. Did you manage to sort the car?
