Should the tracker change tonight for those at BW42?

It should do, email from my dealer today saying my build week 42 is now showing as confirmed on his system, although tracker is still showing step 2, with the factory, so I'm expecting it to change overnight.

Happy birthday, Tambourine

it might be worth giving your dealer a ring, mine assures me my bw42 is confirmed but tracker has still not changed today. He might have that birthday present for you after all.

Goods news Jeff, mine is also ordered from JCB Medway so we should be collecting at the same time, only downside for me is the 290 miles from Cornwall to collect it, but it will be worth it just for that first drive back

So if week 36's are starting to take deliveries that means we're just 6 weeks away!!

So if week 36's are starting to take deliveries that means we're just 6 weeks away!!

im hoping for 3 weeks from build to delivery looking at orders in the past (so 5 weeks total) but i know that's a dream. my dealership is a 5 minute drive from the port of tyne so i'm hoping that will speed things up. probably wont :P

plus the BW39ers are changing to "build in progress" on time this week where as the 36ers were mainly delayed so thats promising for us :D

Looks like mine hasn't started either. Emailed my dealer who gave me a much more detailed update than expected. See below:

"Hi Andrew,

I have had this supply update sent through for you to view, basically (trying to summarise here) there was a hail storm in Northern Germany at the start of August. This severely damaged thousands of cars that had to be repaired, as a result they used the parts for cars that were already in the build queue (another words yours), I have been told that this delay should not be much more than a week, as per attached sheet.

My apologies for this, I was not aware that something that happened 10 weeks ago was still having an impact as this was not communicated from VW"

He also emailed me a PDF with supplies and lead times from vw which I'll upload later.

Doesn't look like it's going to be massively late

Just had a reply from my dealer:

"I have just checked our system and your car's status is still with
production order (in the process of being built)

I have checked the VW bulletins and there is no mention of the week delay
you have seen on the forums."

While I'm still looking forward to getting this specific car there is literally not a single part of this process that would make me consider buying a new car from VW again.

Looking on the BW42 passenger supply document, it clearly states up to 25 weeks lead times on both the Golf GTi & GTD.
I would say, try a different dealership the next time

Mine went from 4 weeks, to 3 weeks then to 10 days. If you look on some of the other BW threads they have put a science to it. Having worked for alot of my working career for car manufacturers, I can certainly say there isn't a science as there are so many variables that go towards the manufacture and delivery of a car!!

Having worked for alot of my working career for car manufacturers, I can certainly say there isn't a science as there are so many variables that go towards the manufacture and delivery of a car!!

Totally agree given each car is individually made to a certain spec. It'll turn up when it turns up!

Surely that's not on though? VW claim to make a car every 16 seconds or something, and they've been doing this for 50 years odd - they can't just be looking in the parts bins and then taking an order off the pile when they've got the stuff.

Stock pipeline management and manufacturing scheduling aren't anything new, it's not acceptable that this process is such a shambles with VW. That's not even getting on to their pathetic tracker.. >£25k purchase that takes 4.5 months to fulfill and they give you 7 stages and it only updates on Sundays?

I can buy a £5 item on Amazon and get full visibility of the order the whole way to my door.

I'm still looking forward to getting this GTI but based on this experience it's very unlikely I will consider getting a new car from VW again.

End of rant

Are you expecting your car to be Tyne-bound when you live in Bournemouth? Unless you’re picking up from a North-East or Scottish dealership I’d expect yours to be going to Sheerness, for a localish south coast dealership. Peter Coopers Southampton area group?

If it only reached Emden this morning then it’ll not be on the aforementioned “City of Paris”. The other 2 Tyne ships that leave Emden with VWs are “City of Rotterdam” and “City of Rome”. All 3 drop VWs at Tyne, then pick up Nissans and drop them up in Sweden or Norway, then come back to Tyne, pick up more Nissans, Take them to Amsterdam/Ijmuiden and then back to Emden to pick up more VWs.

2 minutes from Tyne Dock? Benfield Silverlink? My local dealership, but they always offer a sh!te part ex and a sh!te deal on the new one, so I never buy from them. They usually do my servicing though.

Correct on the dealership, ordered from silverlink. Not the greatest deal but I was very busy at the time of ordering it and didn't want to wait. when i did have time to shop around  a few months later it would have added months on to the wait to cancel and order elsewhere and i am incredibly impatient haha. mistake on my part really.

I have moved past the 4 week stage, as far as I can work out there are a number of "sub stages" within stage 5. Once the car is built it shows stage 5 and states 4 weeks, once at Emdem it states 3 weeks (and stays on stage 5)  finally for stage 5 it states 10 days which means it has left on the boat.

The next stage is obviously 6 which is when it's arrived and cleared customs.

No one seems to know it’s getting on a ship (not VW UK, not the dealer), just when it got on a ship. If your car got on a ship on Weds and was due in Tyne dock on the Thurs, the tracker will update to “10 days” when you check it on the Thurs morning. A day to ship, maybe half a day to unload on arrival then a day to clear customs, usually 4 days from arrival at dock for VW UK to have it transported to the dealer. Things seem to happen quicker at the UK end for Tyne bound cars than Sheerness and Grimsby bound cars.

GTI_Redpath:

I was supposed to be able to pick mine from port or have the dealer pick it up from port to save 3 days delivery, after kicking off to VW UK about my car being built almost 3 weeks late (BW33 car built at the back end of BW35), but it never happened. The dealership did this for my dad’s car when he was on a scheduled visit to my house to pick up his car, which was consequently delayed but was going home the morning after it cleared customs at port (he now lives in Southampton, but still buys his cars up here because they give pretty much no discount/freebies at his local VW group – “Peter Cooper”).

To get the dealer to go to the port and collect it rather than wait for VW UK to deliver it to the dealers is possible, but there is apparently a lot of red tape involved and it’s not something the dealerships like to do unless there is a really good reason for doing it (like my dad having to do a 700 mile round trip the following weekend to get it).

Are you getting yours from Benfield/Pulman/Lookers group?

im getting it from benfield so its only a few mins down the road from the port. its no massive hardship to wait for it to get delivered to the dealer the traditional way rather than picking it up from the port. I havent got a good enough reason really, would just be easier to pick up next week rather than the week after if thats how it turns out

Picked mine up yesterday, was it worth the 5 month wait?  F### yeh!!
Had a steady 300 mile journey home to Cornwall, 37mpg, which I was happy with, very impressed with the adaptive cruise control, even on busy m25 it worked a treat. Dynaudio brilliant. So much more comfortably on a long journey than my mk5. So far so good

Sounds awesome Nelly! And better MPG than some of the GTD'ers ;) hehe :)
Have fun with it! - The roads getting down there must have been epic!

well been an AWESOME first few days in the car. probably sounds like a broken record on this forum but it is WELL worth the wait. average 30 mpg so far and i have not been driving "economically' :P the surprise best feature is the adaptive cruise control. its FANTASTIC. even with the manual you can just change gear and use non of the other pedals. absolutely adore it.

One minor issue is that the headlights have a little moisture in them, im gonna give it a week to see if it clears but i recon it will

Picked my 5 door manual performance pack GTI in CSG up on Saturday. Not had chance to drive a huge distance in it yet, but so far it's looking awesome.

I also have a little moisture inside the headlamps.
