I've had a crap couple of days with the golf!
I've had to buy disk brakes and pads + Lambda sensor and am fitting them all tomorrow, however on Sunday I had the battery light flash up, lights dim and a message of "alternator workshop" flash up, the steering went incredibly heavy and so did the brakes but only for a second, the same thing happened today and then five minutes after the oil light flashed up message of "check oil level, service manual" but again only for a second I also got a check washer fluid level however this has just dipped below the sensor, however all warning lights/messages have now gone off?
The oil level is also fine and I'm going to check voltage of alternator/battery tomorrow/Thursday when I have it up on the ramp.
I would however like to have an idea of what to look for before I get it up there, it might be worth noting that the weather (rain/cold) has been pretty heavy here the last few days and I noticed looking back through it's SH that there is no engine cover underneath the engine could this be a cause or am I just trying to find solutions.
As always any advice and help is appreciated.
Cheers,
Jack.

Not had a mk4 golf long myself, but last month when we had thunder rain, driving down the motorway was horrible.
Alt workshop came on, but then went back off a few seconds later. I put it down to water getting in the altnator. Never has came back up though and had no issues since. Also I have no undertray.
Best get the voltage checked on the battery and the altnator
