Title: Wastegate Rod rattle
Post by: Eeef on 17 September 2013, 10:21
Mine's in with VW today to look at this to be fixed under warranty, which I'm expecting them to say no to!

Is there any official record of this issue from VW, any service numbers, or notices etc?

When I took mine in for this issue last year or so,they had not heard of it before.I showed them the thread on this subject from this very forum. They ordered the clip and did it under warranty the very next week.Noticed the difference a tiny clip can do straight away though.

They say they can't reproduce it. What a bunch of muppets.

I got nowhere with my dealership, bought the part from another dealership out of principle, was about £12.

Takes couple of mins to fit but you do need a ramp really.

Well, kind of progress.

They still say they can't reproduce it, but they're going to do it anyway... but have to order the part in.

My dealer said they couldn't find anything wrong when their guy took it for a drive. So I drove him to demonstrate the rattle as its only at certain revs.I showed him and he agreed with me it was there.

From memory it does happen around 2500rpm.Any higher or lower it disappears but once you know about it,it don't half get on your nerves.

This has me wondering if what I thought was an annoying interior rattle, could actually be this.  Pretty sure it only occurs it at similar revs.  Going to take a closer listen over next couple of days.

Yep, starts at approx. 2500rpm, sounds almost like exhaust baffles rattling. Gone by 3000rpm. Only happens with a bit of load on the engine.

Somehow they managed to drag out a 5 minute fix for an hour and a half, but it's been done under warranty and is much better!

Glad they've sorted it for you.

Forgot to say thanks to those that had posted about this previously.

I'd still be convinced it was the exhaust without you guys ;)

Took the wife's into the dealers yesterday convinced I had the issue.

Took the techie up the road, couldn't produce the noise. Irrespective, dealers said they will do it for me, all booked in for 3 weeks time as I can't get in earlier

....and they have said I can have their Mk7 demo for the day
